Time for UEFA to go it alone. 13:25 - Jul 20 with 2560 viewsAlberto_the_frog

Secede from FIFA.
The other confederations won't get rid of Infantino.
They're only interested in how much money the can get from World Cup.
Only UEFA have any interest in good governance.
World cup is all FIFA have.
We should start our own.
32 teams.
16 European,
7 African
5 South American
2 North American
1 Asian
Either Australia or NZ.
Straight to knockout.
To be held in the summer.
Host to alternate between Europe and rest of world.

So you think that the other confederations will join a UEFA centric competition?

Equally, would the world cup be the same draw if the European teams weren't there?

Straight to knockout?

So half the teams would get one game only? I would imagine any such idea is doomed to fail.

Was mulling this the other day, albeit slightly different lines

UEFA members only

European Nations Cup, top 16 ranked qualify automatically, remaining 39 mini qualifying for remaining 16 places (once every two years)
Alternate summers off.

Champions League (best 36 club sides), Europa League (next best 36 club sides) - annual
Domestic leagues - maximum league size 20

Manage the calendar and player welfare.

The rest of world football can do its own thing.

maybe we should go for the American world series style.

Just play Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in a round robin tournament and then declare ourselves world champions.

Good plan even if highly unlikely obvs.

After the last few weeks it's clear the Euros are now the premier international competition both as they're less bloated and less (overtly at least) corrupt. This has been a bloated and dull competition which despite some good performances from new nations had no real excitement til the later stages due to the padded out groups and head to head records rather the goal difference ruining what little jeopardy remained. 64 teams and a tweak to back to goal difference could make a difference, but it also seems very unfeasible and unfair on the players given the amount of summer that will take up!

Anyway - respect to UEFA for standing up to them.

We really should bring back the home championships, though. Beats playing Kosovo in a "qualifier"

Presumably F.I.F.A would ban any member who took part in a tournament not approved by F.I.F.A.

The European associations still back Infantino mostly.

Even the English FA are backing him for re-election.

FIFA are terrible but that idea is almost as terrible. It was actually a great World Cup apart from the obvious awful bits.

Haven't UEFA diluted all the European club competitions in the same way FIFA have the world cup, for the same ends? What makes you think it would be much better under their stewardship?

It doesn't have to be MUCH better. Incremental improvements.
No Qataris promising a summer world cup then getting away with a winter one.
Reasonable kick off times for Europeans.
No Infantino.

It would be an interesting power dynamic. FIFA's world cup would be meaningless without Europe. Would also generate just a fraction of the Dosh. Could UEFA fashion one to rival it financially? People would follow the money.

It’s a US plot to avoid playing these pesky little countries like Belgium, who most people can’t find on a map (due to their education system)

Europe and central / south America Cup. That's a start. If we can Argentina and Brazil on board that's pretty much the best teams in the world.

And it gives Qatar or Saudis a better chance to win the FIFA World Cup so we could have a good laugh.

Without EUFA teams and visa versa the competition would be worthless ……Monet the root of all evil.

Infantino is done for, good job too trying to get this through as quickly and quietly as possible.

He backs out = his position becomes untenable

He doesn't back out (and UEFA hold firm) = the appeal to investors disappears and the scheme fails anyway.

I think he and his descendants would be very upset at his magnificent paintings having that effect :(
