The Aussie PM 15:30 - Jan 3 with 1863 views | artsbossbeard | I know it must be an horrific experience over there at the moment but the PM travelling around and being told to 'rack off' by stricken residents is making me laugh. Alf Stewart-tastic.

Yes, but the NthQld bit mainly refers to North Queensland Cowboys rugby league team, although I have spent a fair bit of time in Queensland, which I got to from the UK by flying, hypocrite that I am. The ITFC bit you can work out for yourselves!

Not sure on this, so has anyone else heard of this? Also the NSW state government didn,t ask for help until the fires were well established.

The Aussie PM on 10:27 - Jan 4 with 1155 views | StokieBlue | He has acted like a tool throughout the whole disaster. Denying climate change is part of the problem then taking a carbon-intensive first class flight to Hawaii for a holiday whilst the fires are raging. Watching the firemen refuse to shake his hand was excellent - it's the least he deserves. SB
The Aussie PM on 10:36 - Jan 4 with 1151 views | hampstead_blue | There were a couple of Aussie back bench MPs on Today this morning from both sides. The incumbent stated there was no link to the current fires and droughts over the past years and climate change. He gave a really strange explanation that native Australians burnt during cooler periods as a conservation piece. That's nothing new but he was pretty well owned when the oppo came on. Australia are a huge problem. They are opening new coal mines. The largest ever! Hello Australia....Wake-up and smell your own finger, cos it's been stuck up your backside for a while now. They probably have all the natural resource they will ever need. No need to dig it up.

They aren't digging it up for themselves, it's virtually all sold to China. They have enabled a cycle where they sell fossil fuels to China, China burns them to improve their economic prosperity and the climate effects hit Australia rather than China. It's ridiculous and they need to vote in someone who puts a stop to it. SB

The liberals won the recent election mainly due to a landslide in Queensland where the proposal for the new Adani coal mine and the jobs it would create was a major factor. Also, like most countries the mighty Dollar rules for most Aussies, a big house, big SUV and foreign holidays are far more important then Climate change. Turkeys voting for Christmas comes to mind. Some on here may not know that in 2017 Scott Morrison took a lump of Coal into Question Time in parliament ... Jeepers. What a plumb. I understand the point Stokie made that they are selling it, but shirley we need to stop digging the stuff up. Maybe a global, slap a huge tax on all exports from the worst polluters? It won't affect consumers as their goods will become so expensive nobody will buy them. Money is their drug of choice, hit them where it hurts.

I doubt he’ll be PM in six months, but he won’t stand down. The traditional approach in Australia is for the party to stab their leader in the back as soon as their poll ratings drop. Rudd, Gillard, Abbott and Turnbull have all been ‘spilled’ in the last ten years. But as someone says, the mighty dollar rules down here. Australia hasn’t suffered a recession for decades because it can always dig something out of the ground that another country will pay heaps for (Gold, Iron Ore, Copper, Coal).
