Very difficult to narrow it down to just five as I've been privileged to see so many great players in a Town shirt.I also think George Best played in a Town shirt at a Testimonial back in the 70s,can anyone confirm?

Very very hard to choose (these are fav's not necessarily the best):

Dalian Atkinson (I honestly thought he could have been a completely unplayable, unstoppable forward)
Wark (the complete box to box midfielder)
Thijssen (close control sublime, never wasted a ball)
Darren Currie (he just made me smaile time and again)
Finidi George (one of the best team goals scored at PR)

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...

George Best played in Bobby Robson Testimonial game in November 1979.

My five greatest ITFC players would have your Beattie, Thijssen and Wark but I would have Mills and Muhren as my other two.

As you say narrowing it down to five very difficult, Ray Crawford would be just outside my top five greatest.

edit-with the thread being about favourite players rather than necessarily greatest I would have Dougie Moran and Danny Hegan in that top five, not yet sure about the other three.

Wasn't Best a Dunstable Town player by 1979? I have a vague memory of this. Trouble is I have a vague memory!

Yes if it were 10 favs I would certainly add Mills, Ted Phillips and Danny Hegan to my five.

According to Wiki Best played for Fort Lauderdale in the states and Hibernian in Scotland in 1979 but don't know if he was registered with either on them at the time of Bobby Robson game.

I went to the testimonial match, my vague memory was Best was a Hibs player but may be well off.

Right yes. Only at Dunstable on loan in 1974, played no competitive games and 2 friendlies.
Manager at the time: the lovely Barry Fry.

I have the programme from the Bobby Robson game in front of me at the moment.
Interestingly it says that Fulham held George Best's registration although he last played for them in 1977 and had placed a £150000 transfer fee should anyone else want to sign him.
