Everyday of lockdown is costing the country 2.4 billion. The country will open up gradually from July. Apart from the over 70s and vulnerable who may be told to stay in until a vaccine is developed

This is pretty straightforward.

It’s been three weeks. And we were late starting, hence why we are suffering more than most. So really we should be at five.

Apparently two weeks to the peak.

That’s seven on the way up the hill.

Then that again on the way down from the peak.

But the way down is more drawn out and the steep rise up.

Call it seven plus two (who knows)

So another thirteen weeks. Takes us to mid July.

It'll be another three weeks initially and then probably another 3 or 6 weeks more depending on how things are going. Then it'll be a gradual easing of measures rather than lifting them. Spain is already starting to ease things, allowing non-essential workers to return to work. Italy isn't far away. Wuhan is now more or less back to normal after under 3 months of lockdown. We're close to things peaking in terms of deaths but hospital admissions are reportedly looking more positive, however each day feels like bad news right now and probably makes us more pessimistic about how long these measures will be in place.

I can't see this level of lockdown being in place until July. That would be 4 months from when it first started, Wuhan was out of lockdown completely in less than 3 months. Spain is easing measures already, Italy isn't too far behind. I'd be very surprised to see us still at this level of lockdown in July.

The government CJPS runs out at the end of May. I imagine the aim is to start easing some things the week after the end of May bank holiday. Keeping a tight grip on things like public transport and ensuring that highly vulnerable groups are kept as isolated as they can.

There is no way of knowing.

Hopefully, you are correct, It is just not feasible to be in lockdown for that long.

Since those at most risk were told to isolate for 12 weeks it seems reasonable to assume this continuing through to July, for some at least.

Decision won't be til Thursday -as the lockdown didn't start until then.

The announcement it was coming was on the Monday but it wasn't legally enforceable until the law was passed.

Reckon 3 week extension and if I was speculating (which we all are) 3 more on top before it gets slowly released.

That would be unfortunate but it's certainly a possible scenario. I think any date is highly dependent on improved testing and I don't think anyone really knows where we are with that.

That would mean no more schooling for children until their next school year. I know they are trying at the moment but sending work home is nowhere near as effective and even less so if the parents are still having to work.

Big issues for businesses as well given I saw only 1.4% or something had actually managed to get a government backed loan.

I don't know about how others feel, and whilst I appreciate this is a moving target and changes daily, I personally would find it much easier from both a personal point of view (getting through the lockdown) and for my business if I had a date to target.

If they said ok we will have these restrictions in place until X, then I think I could work towards it. It is the unknown and potential for this to run and run which I find hardest.

So if it is 1st July, get it announced and then tell people if they don't comply it will then be 1st August and so on so people know they need to act responsibly.

If people haven’t realised they need to comply yet with the number of deaths we’re suffering then there really isn’t much hope for us.

For the most vulnerable I expect them to be self isolating for some time yet. I'd be very surprised though if we have this level of blanket restrictions come July, based on what is happening elsewhere where restrictions are being or have been lifted at least partially much sooner than that.

No junior school before September. And lets face it, no schooling before September. Anyone who cant see that with the state of things at the moment hasnt really been watching things unfold. We will be lucky to have the lockdown lifted a little in June as we havent even reached the peak yet.

Australian Govt spokesperson was saying this morning they don’t see any international travel on any scale into/out of Australia until 2021.

The current lockdown in one form or another will last until June, potentially tightened within that time period.

I was at a meeting last week looking at the plans across the EU as part of our work at the FCO ame Spain are still seeing 500 deaths a day with a much stricter lockdown than we have now and 5,000 new cases a day.

We don’t get out of the lockdown until our figures are in double digits at best.

The problem then is the unfulfilled promise - people will feel worse if the Government put a date in place and then have to move it even if the lockdown appears to have been obeyed. And if they set a specific date then people will start relaxing and going out before then: oh, it’s only a couple of days early, what harm can it do?

I think you need to go back and read my post. I made a number of caveats within my post and I didn't say they would be back before September.

I said it was extremely hard and unfair on the children and their education when they are getting a bit of work sent home from school which they are left to do on their own whilst their parents still in full time jobs have to work.

I fully understand that there is no good solution to that.

Yes and no.

If staff numbers are not safe and current guidelines such as 2m distancing etc. means you cannot openly safely, then yes it is their decision. But obviously they will need to fairly easily justify that.

I am conflicted as I don't see how we can go back until we can safely have 30 kids in a classroom, contact on corridors etc. But likewise, this government seem the type to scapegoat schools and send us in asap to get people back to work. It's an easy smear campaign to suggest teachers have got it easy, aren't doing their jobs etc. as we are seeing it creep into social media and the like already.
