Already happened so far as I can see. Traffic through the village was pretty much normal today. Saw a people carrier with family and 3 kids out for a day trip. Govt have massively mismanaged this by trailing an announcement before BH weekend.

It's almost like they're serially incompetent, more interested in media management and are deeply in hock to billionaire loons who are more interested in a quick buck than anyone's welfare. Basically, we have Paul Lambert running the country. [Post edited 8 May 2020 19:49]

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 19:14 - May 8 with 1700 views | NotSure | Yes I do. Government has royally cocked when it comes to looking after care homes. But it is easier to control the virus there, shouldn’t stop people getting out and about.

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 19:30 - May 8 with 1648 views | itfcjoe | Care homes, that house the most vulnerable people, have been totally chucked under the bus Was reading about one in Manc where people moved from there from hospital who had had Cov-19 and the care homes weren’t told about it, not given their notes (deliberately) They are just incubators for viruses, and have people coming in and out, often the poorest and BAMEs who are more likely to get it as it is. They should have been treated like hospitals from Day 1. The ‘media’ who seem to get so much stick were the ones who pushed this and brought it to the fore

The care home thing is developing into a disgrace. Watching the news earlier and the thought of some of the WW2 vets being shielded in care homes sent a shiver down my spine. Coming round to the consensus that it is still to early for anything more than tinkering on the lockdown given the dangers of getting it wrong.

Maybe control was the wrong word. Contain is better. If you have an outbreak in a care home then test everyone and get out anyone who is clear of the virus. Everyone else goes to hospital and you shut it down. Look the virus should never have got there in the first place, terrible mismanagement by this government.

Exactly, across the country people are putting up bunting, having tea parties in the sun and flying flags to celebrate VE Day. Meanwhile, many thousands of the generation who actually lived through it (and some of whom fought in it) are being left to die alone in our care homes. I’m sorry that’s emotive, and I don’t know what the answer is, but it’s just a horrific situation.

As you had edited that I expected you would have got the figuresright. If 1 In 4 of total cases in UK had been in the last three days we would be in serious trouble.

What has made you change your mind over the last few days, as from reading I think you were quite passionate on relaxing the measures over the last few weeks?

Ooops, sorry, just corrected the corrected corection, and yes 16,374 new cases in the last three days, according to the Worldometer figures, are extremely shocking. Never mind that won't worry our Government.

I have been saying for weeks that our figures are static. Other countries have had real downturns and much lower daily infections before relaxing their stricter regimes.

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 21:23 - May 8 with 1346 views | Bluesquid | Not so much about the restrictions more about the greatly reduced care standards. Elderly people contracting C-19 is not an automatic death sentence and according to Whitty the great majority of these patients will recover with proper care. Some people seem to be scratching their heads as to why there are so many care home deaths and regarding the UK as i pointed out yesterday as of the end of March key duties under the Care Act have been withdrawn with the suspension of most local authority social care obligations. So the emergency legislation that has been introduced as the Coronavirus Act which will run for 2 years actually means that the elderly and most vulnerable if they do contract C-19 now have to try and survive the virus in an environment with greatly reduced care standards due to the Coronavirus Act. Charities and human rights experts warned back then about the risks to the elderly and other vulnerable people. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/mar/23/uks-emergency-coronavirus-bill-w

Still want to see the measures relaxed - but only when it is the right time and done in the right way. Am thinking that people when given an inch will take a mile - so if we relax them now - too many people will take the pss. And with that comes a risk of increased spread - more deaths - longer lockdown. Guess I am not liking it at all - but ultimately there are more important things than mine or others enjoyment. IF the relaxation could be achieved and people stick to the rules - I'd still support it - but think the consensus view is right. I have pretty much been persuaded. The deaths are still too high. They are falling - and we are on the right track - but think we need to stick with it and not risk a resurgence. *All my opinions only - but you did ask :-)
