This. It's a silly question really. He's clearly a perfectly decent goalkeeper and played every game in our good run at the start of the season, which was HMS Piss the League form. However he also played for a chunk of our poorest spell of the season too (albeit he came in when the run had already commenced). Neither of those runs was solely down to him though.

Goalies are uniquely exposed, in that they are the last line of defence and almost every error is going to be severely punished with goals conceded. There's nowhere for them to hide. Also, they are often not involved in the action at all for long periods, then suddenly have to perform at maximum level, maybe with just a few seconds warning if the opposition break quickly and shoot.

Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 08:46 - Aug 10 with 5422 views | Farmerpiles | Yes. One of the reasons our form dipped was the constant swapping between him and Norris. How was either goalie expected to gain confidence from a consistent run in the team with our manager continually swapping the team around. PL won't have the covid crisis to save him this time. Gone by November with us still mid table.

He's perfectly good enough. He comes off his line and his size gives him a bit of presence. He made some important saves at times and didn't make many mistakes that directly led to goals in the way that Norris did. His distribution with his feet is very, very hit and miss but otherwise he is plenty good enough to be first choice here.

Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 08:59 - Aug 10 with 5392 views | fabian_illness | Holy has the ability to hit the opposition’s 18 yard box off the floor. With the right forwards it could get us a few more goals if used in the right way. Everyone loves pretty football but a good route one option and a bit of muscle may bag us a few more goals.

Though his distribution is hit and miss, most of his kicks go over the half way line so even those that do go out of play have pushed the opposition so far back that they can't strike quickly, take Bart and Gerks both of whom struggled to get it over the half way line which allowed teams to hit us hard from the throw in, you struggle to do that if your taking the throw in 20 metres plus behind the half way line!
Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 09:05 - Aug 10 with 5377 views | PrideOfTheEast | Don't see why not. If we don't chop and change like we did last year we'll be fine but I have zero faith in Lambert.

Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 10:10 - Aug 10 with 5283 views | Chrisd | He looks a decent L1 keeper, but I need more evidence he’s better than that. The chopping and changing with Norris probably didn’t help his confidence last season, so jury still out for me. Nevertheless, I hope PL puts his faith in him as he was one of his signings last summer, then let’s see what he can do when he knows he’s properly backed by the management. Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 10:32 - Aug 10 with 5224 views | Darth_Koont | He looked good enough at the start. Seemed to command his area, dealt with shots and aerial challenges well and had an almighty boot to help us break quickly/press higher up the pitch. Norris wasn't bad but didn't feel an upgrade at all. So really not sure why we didn't stick with and develop our own keeper.

Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 10:37 - Aug 10 with 5209 views | J2BLUE | Yes. I rate him. I consider the needless rotation with Norris to be one of the reasons we finished where we did (I'm not blaming Norris, just saying rotating your keeper is stupid). I think i'd rather we just went with Holy with Wright or Przybek as back up because it seems unlikely we're going to sign a second senior keeper and take up cap room and a loan could cause the same sort of problems as last season.

Is Thomas Holy a promotion winning goalkeeper? (n/t) on 12:46 - Aug 10 with 5065 views | itfcjoe | He's good enough to, thought his goalkeeping was fairly faultless last year, whilst distribution needs to improve last season was his first one with a goalkeeper coach so think he'll be fine

Just further to this re: Holy’s appearances in the poor spell - he didn’t play in either of our heaviest defeats of the season either. In answer to the OP - he’s as much a promotion winning goalkeeper as Craig Forrest was going into 1991/92.
