During Covid, yes unless it's a one person protest, or a small gathering

The question is though what happens after Covid. Will certain Draconian laws such as this one remain to indeed outlaw protests, raves and other gatherings deemed a nuisance? A rewording maybe so as not to criminalise all gatherings

Maybe dancing and protesting on beaches and in your local supermarket is the way to go!

He was the organiser of the protest, which broke Covid19 gathering rules.

Seems proportionate to me.

Apparently not.

I think headmasters can point to a range of government advice that is so contradictory and confusing that whatever they do is OK.
Any prosecution of schools in the courts will be thrown out when a Judge sees that Johnson et al. have said "no but, yea but, no but, yea but.....".

I’m not sure Maajid was on the loony protest so you may have posted your comment in the wrong thread by mistake. Unless if course you are defending Ike, Corbyn and the British a union of Fascists by bringing up Maajid as an example of whatabouterry?

No matter, imo Farage is an antisemite who has a history of antisemitic tropes. Maajid’s defence of Farage using the term “Cultural Marxism” is indefensible. He may feel that Farage was using the term in a non antisemitic way. I disagree and have less respect for Maajid for doing so.

See how easy it is Koonters. In complete contrast to your own defence if Chris Williamson and Pete Willsman.

Piers Corbyn is already an exercise in whataboutery for you.

Willsman was actually talking about documented involvement by the Israeli embassy. The trope is all yours and others like you.

What part of my defence of Williamson are you talking about? Williamson identified the scourge of antisemitism in the very same breath as he said Labour were too apologetic. They were. Labour went down an acceptance and apology route when it's been obvious from day one that the smearers and campaigners inside and outside of Labour were never going to stop with the accusations. Any admission on their terms has just redoubled and re-tripled the accusations and the perceived scale of the problem increased exponentially.

But my sympathies re: Maajid. He may be an awful fig leaf for right-wing islamophobia and a slimy left-punching grifter for cash, but I know he was a hero and an inspiration to you.

The thread was about Piers Corbyn getting arrested at the anti vaxers protest which he attended alongside David Ike, the British Union of fascists and other assorted lions.

Not sure how mentioning him in this thread, after he had been named several times already constitutes whabiuterry but if your happy to come to their defence then fill your boots mate. It’s not the first time you’ve defended Piers and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Shave you had you jump on the thread in order to have a pop. I’ll leave you to it.

I didn't say mentioning him in this thread was whataboutery. I'm talking about your use of Piers Corbyn more generally.

Maajid has nothing to do with this thread. I brought him up here because I wanted to catch your attention before your holiday. So job done.

It would be sad if any party smuggled in yet more draconian laws under the banner of 'Covid'.

It's bad enough that you can't protest against fairy stories anymore (religion I mean) without death threats.

Let's let them demonstrate. I for one would like to hear their argument. Muffling it won't make it go away. It needs to be heard and then debated.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

If I stood at Speaker Corner and told the truth that all religion is made-up fairy tales, then I'd imagine a few locals would pile in and plod would arrest me or stop me.

I'd even go so far as saying that I'd draw a pic of Mohammad and put a red line through it with the words...."fake". "it's all made-up". "you've been framed".
I would have death threats in the same way Charlie Hebdo felt the love.

Oh, pn the previous, No I'm not supporting the craziest Corbyn, just letting him have the space he needs to get his arguments out so they can be shot down.

Religion (like anything humans are involved in) is a mixed bag, ranging from very good beliefs and people to very bad beliefs and people.

But I think the principle of live and let live should be applied to religions and those who are against them. Believe what you want to believe but never use it to justify harming or marginalising others or for blocking more objective, humanist views.

With the Charlie Hebdo shootings, I was shocked and appalled that people could massacre others over religion. Seems an utter perversion of what they claim to believe in. On the other hand before that incident, I do think there was some pretty nasty provocation and offence too with the Mohammed images. We can call it free speech if we want but it no doubt offended millions of innocent people.

Religion isn't for me but I'm no fan of those who go around attacking people's religions either. It seems to be the other side of the same coin.

I think you are way off the mark Hampstead.

The scenario you paint of a lack of tolerance for atheism / argument at Speaker corner of all places is right up there with "You can't say your british anymore" argument.

I'd agree that extremist Islam is very intolerant of criticism of Mohammad (you linked one clear example of that) but to extrapolate that to suggest you can't argue the toss at speakers corner over religion is simply nonsense tbh.
