....infection rates in Suffolk are increasing so much during 'lockdown.' 81 per 100,000 now.

It has certainly reached EA - had 3 examples this week of colleagues or other businesses that have been affected by people testing positive.

We won’t see the affects of lockdown in the stats right away, or something. I’m sure that’s what they said.

All that does is show what the transmission rates were 2 weeks ago. You'll need another month before knowing whether the 'lockdown' was successful. Inverted commas used, as it's not much of a lockdown.

Indeed. More a corrupt destruction of small retailers and the hospitality industry. Yet the complete lack of any COVID awareness continues in ASDA!

The number I saw earlier was about 108, roughly the same as some boroughs of London.

You are probably right that lower cases outside Ipswich reduce the numbers.

It is picking up again everywhere though, ~560 deaths in the UK, ~680 deaths in Italy, ~500 in France.

The lockdowns were definitely needed.

Case numbers were levelling off even before this lock down. I know there’s been a big jump today but hoping that’s an anomaly

It was 550 deaths yesterday and nearly that the day before, it's not an anomaly. The numbers are high everywhere - it's not just the UK.

Case numbers aren't really that relevant, the deaths are a far better indicator of where we are as they don't rely on testing infrastructure. We entered lockdown at about 150 deaths a day I believe and we are now at nearly 600. That means the majority of that was probably baked in before lockdown - it should slow and drop but if we hadn't locked down it would either keep increasing or stay at that high level.

I was talking about cases rather than deaths. Those sadly passing away today would have contracted the virus 3 or 4 weeks ago, probably before this lock down was even decided. Deaths follow cases with a couple of weeks lag. Cases started levelling a week or 10 days or so ago, hopefully deaths will do the same very soon.

Indeed.

So by your own posting and reasoning you are basically saying that lockdown was required to ensure that levelling off. That doesn't really fit with your other posts so perhaps something to think about?

I’m saying cases were levelling off without lockdown. Logic would dictate that deaths would have followed. The tiered system was working, it wasn’t given enough time to show it before the blunt tool of lock down was deployed. Lock down will bring it down further, of course it will, but by how much and if this is worth the other impacts of lock down I do not know.

The data seems to show an upward curve in everything from the growing infections that led to the lockdown.

The day before lockdown was mental, even in rural Suffolk. People flying around the roads visiting everyone to get the last bit of spreading in before lockdown.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Think these figures are a good case for lockdown. Republic of Ireland has been in lockdown now for three weeks.

New deaths per million.

New cases per million.

Note the differances between the two Irelands.
