'ERG says it will examine trade agreement in detail if deal reached tonight The Tory European Research Group (ERG) of pro-Brexit Conservative MPs has insisted it will examine any trade agreement in detail if a deal is reached tonight between London and Brussels.
The body said it would reconvene its so-called "star chamber" to examine any deal.
A statement issued by the group on Wednesday said: "Assuming a deal between UK and the EU is officially confirmed tonight, the European Research Group will tomorrow reconvene the panel of legal experts, chaired by Sir William Cash MP, to examine the details of the deal and legal text.
The team of highly-experienced lawyers, previously known as the 'star chamber', was first assembled in 2019 to examine the legal aspects of Theresa May's original Withdrawal Agreement.
Given that the new agreement is also highly complex, the star chamber will scrutinise it in detail, to ensure that its provisions genuinely protect the sovereignty of the United Kingdom after we exit the transition period at the end of this year.
The star chamber, which will include some new members to replace those now in Government, will undertake its examination as expeditiously as possible before providing its conclusions on the merits of the deal - which we will aim to make public before Parliament reconvenes.'' '
They’ll make sure it actually means Brexit and won’t support it if it doesn’t, good for them. If we’ve managed to reach a good trade deal I look forward to the reaction on here

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I'm sure they'll get together to come up with some empty slogans for the xenophobic and hard of thinking to regurgitate at least.
Pronouns: He/Him/His.
"Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

They keep moving the goal posts. First it was single market access, then it was out of the single market and recently they've been endorsing no deal.
There's absolutely no point in trying to appease extreme ideologues because you'll never satisfy them - they're nothing more than Faragistas in blue rosettes.

How would you define a good trade deal? Would it be better than our original one?

Sadly for them, they hold very little power since Johnson got such a big majority.

As far as this deal is concerned, they are an irrelevance. Labour will see to that.
Potentially an issue for Johnson longer term though. They are essentially now a group of angry emasculated covidiots who will seek revenge on Johnson and likely quicken the end of his stay at number ten.

A 'good' trade deal with the EU would be the one we already had surely?
Otherwise, if we wanted to better that, we could have made the most of the opportunity offered to us in January 2019 to make amendments to our membership and all that went with it.
Instead, we chose to turn our backs on that and chance our luck.
What we have done since is blow billions of pounds on nothing and chase after deals with other nations that we pretty much already had.
Right now, a 'good' outcome, will be that we scrape back much of what we already had.

If ?
I don't reme, ber there being any 'if' about this
It was all about the EU needing us more than them, easiest deal in history.....
so why not explain why there is an 'if' now ?

When someone has tied their whole identity to something that makes them feel like a winner for the first time in their life all sense goes out of the window, and any deviation from dogma spoken by those handing out the participation medals can be explained away.

I’m pretty sure they haven’t called for all Europeans to be kicked out of the country. My local MP is a member and he’s a fine chap.

given that any deal will result in more barriers to trade than we have currently and we've spaffed untold billions on this already, there's no way in hell that this will be construed as a "good deal".
