Turn the rest of us to dust? Well that depends if they wanted anything left themselves.
Economically, China could be isolated and neutered, but like that disgusting country Russia, there has to be a willingness to do and an acceptance of the cost to bear. And nobody is prepared to do that.

How do you mean, "turn to dust"?
Economically they could due huge damage but militarily they couldn't do that. Even economically, if push came to shove and they went against the entire Western bloc then they would struggle without any markets to sell to. Obviously that also comes with the issue that we would need to find somewhere new to buy stuff from. Realistically neither can do anything to each other as it's a symbiotic relationship as it stands.
India aren't going to catch up to them for at least 50 years I would imagine. They are a long way behind with their infrastructure and their population continues to skyrocket without any controls (it's probably already overtaken China's). There are also huge internal issues around the caste system and historical ideas.

Even the entente with Russia is little more than an anti-American marriage of convenience. There are long-standing points of rivalry between them, too.
In terms of being a nuclear power, they are more in the same league as the UK and France, rather than anything close to what the US and Russia have deployed.

The problem with large numbers is you need the space and terrain to both deploy them effectively and to hide them from air- and artillery strikes. Otherwise, as happened in Korea, relatively small forces can hold up large formations. I'm also not convinced that the modern Chinese army is as ideologically motivated as the civil war veterans who hurled themselves en masse at UN positions in the early 1950s. | |
