Rhodes supposedly close to signing for Huddersfield 09:02 - May 12 with 2487 viewswkj

Not really to shocking considering a multitude of factors, but Yorkshire press seem to think the deal is close to done in Huddersfield.

No surprise is it. Higher level, probably more money, local which is important with a young family, a club where he's idolised.

No brainer for him.

Also, he doesn't really fit the profile of player the new owners are looking at, he'd probably want decent wages and a 2-3 year deal, and at 31 isn't where we are going forward.

Indeed. Interesting to see that he has kept his Dad as his agent all this time though.

For me that feels like we are dodging a bullet. An aging striker doesn't feel the way to go, we've got Norwood heading in that direction.

Equally you need a couple of players like this to help out. A bit like Matt Elliot when he came to Town, or when Sheringham promoted West Ham on his own and cost us about 16-17 years of our lives as a result.

A good, experienced player, can do absolute wonders for a team. I'd say one of our biggest issues is that Ward was the only guy on our books the last 2 years that had played regular top flight football at all.

It can't all be young and exciting as proven by the disaster of the last 3 years. You need some experience and we're currently very thin on that now Chambers, Skuse, Sears, Ward and Judge are gone. That's a lot of knowledge and experience missing from our game we need to find somewhere. At the moment most of our squads career height was getting relegated from the Championship with us.

Soudns about right. Interesting it says he's represented by his father as I saw him at a Town away game recently. I forget which one.

Very much agree that an experienced player can help so much see Macallister at Liverpool, Charlie Adam at Blackpool, they can make a massive difference

Just seems we have tried this approach but have the wrong players at the wrong time or maybe in the wrong squad

Need to recruit some experience but needs to be done right this time

Wasn't his Dad's 'involvement' part of the reason Keane decided to get rid of him?

Totally agree with you, I do think Cook will want to add some bite/experience, but I just don't think Rhodes is the answer, he will be on top money and still has desires to play in the championship.

Lets be honest, if he wasn't an ex youth player, I very much doubt people would give his name the time of day in relation to joining us.

So the legend goes, though I seem to remember the incident you're referencing was more to do with Keane.

Yeah, I thought that when I read Phil's post. Wish I had queried it.

Is he the type of player we want? Doesn’t lead the line that well and not noted for his workrate. Experience only goes so far and his goal scoring has dropped off. Bullet dodged for me.

He was very close to signing for us on loan during the January of Mick's last season, I had that on the best of authorities. ME pulled the plug on it as the financial contribution was too punchy.

Yeah I didn't know his Dad represents him. I thought his brother Lewis used to be involved in some capacity I think, not spoken to him in years and might have made that up. He was definitely working in football.

Absolutely right. A team of Dobra's and Bishop's wont get us promoted, we need a healthy mix. Some proper leaders. Not suggesting Rhodes is a leader per se, being a few years older doesn't guarantee that, but I would've had him here in a heartbeat.

I would like to see an Elliott type next to Woolfenden. I wondered if Michael Morrison might be an option. Local (BSE) lad, very experienced, no nonsense CB and leader, mentor for the Woolf etc. But he signed a new deal at Reading yesterday which somewhat disappointed me.

I know ME tried to get him 3/4 times at various stages after he left - including last summer. I think it almost become a personal thing after we got rid so early and cheaply and he went on to have the success he did.

We need some players in their prime ages as well - relaistically all those in that 26-30 range have been disappointments for us last season whether it be injury, form or ability (Edwards, Norwood, Nsiala, Nolan)

The old timers in Ward and CHambers contributed enough, as did the youngsters - but that middle range of player who need to be the one driving you on and running things were nowhere - still a hangover from Hurst's tenure in reality

Yeah absolutely right. It used to make me laugh when people dismissed Lambert's 'playing youngsters' claims on the basis of our mean average age, which is utterly meaningless. Our back 4 of Chambers - Woolfy - McGuinness - Ward had a mean average of 27, despite none of them being within 6 years either side of 27. Thanks to 2 being about 20 and 2 being 34.

I think that's far more important than having experienced players that are 30+. If you look through the top 6, it is only Sunderland that have a couple of those types in Leadbitter and McGeady. The rest are comprised of players mainly in that 23-29 bracket. Dynamic players with good attitudes and drive. Someone like Callum Connolly at 23 for example fits that type and you would see him as more of a leader than many far more experienced players.

😂😂😂

I think Charlie Adam was only 23/24 when he signed for Blackpool he's just looked like he's 50 for about 15 years!
