Would be a real coup, the sort of signing that gets you excited - good age and good pedigree at level above

He'd be class and really sees the marker down for what we should be expecting. Stuart Watson wasn't lying when he said champ level signings were coming in

FWIW someone told me we may even be announcing first signing in coming week. Wonder if its him?

Let’s just say a signing like this would settle the nerves somewhat.

Would be some signing ... and more than likely our new captain.

Would be a real statement to get him signed up early.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Watson seemed convinced that a new captain would be arriving soon

In line with what a mate told me about a new signing possibly being announced next week

We need a personality and a leader in the centre backs

He would be great and as you say a real coup

He leads in his intelligence of the game, his personality AND his performances

Whilst of us love Chambo... he has not been the leader we have needed over the last two terms

That would be one handy signing.

We need personality and leadership throughout the entire infrastructure, it’s what’s been missing for far too long but most evident on the pitch. All the transfer noises are positive at the moment, ambitious but very positive.

Yep I'd be happy with that, these are the type of players we need to bring in very quickly, no doubt he'll get options as going on a free..

My concern is, whilst we seem to be making the right moves in terms of players and the recruitment team, the coaching team seems to lack that strong leader away from Cook himself. I’d love us to bring in someone with a bit more experience there.

Yes please. Would be exactly the type of signing to attract others.

Really hope we can pull it off. Getting someone of his ilk in the door early — presumably to be captain as well — would set one heck of a tone.

Seems very unlikely to me as surely he would want to stay at that level & is reported as having plenty of suitors. But hope it happens. I know for a fact we are shopping in the championship at the moment.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Going to need to be a hell of a proposition to persuade Champ players to step down and effectively set their careers back a year — and that's even before the wage restrictions come in. But all bets seem to be off at the moment, don't they. Hope we get some good names in early on and don't spend all summer looking for people we can't quite attract.

You rarely get players step down a division in their prime, unless it's for a big wage increase obviously...so I'm not building my hopes up here..

On a free he can stay in the Championship and move on for a decent wage I'd have thought..

You say that, and I would tend to agree, but we are looking at Lee Evans (Wigan captain), Callum Connolly (Fleetwood captain).

Be really really good to add these kind of leaders all over the pitch, whoever gets the armband is anyone’s guess.

A good team needs captains all over the pitch, this has been part of the problem here recently

I have a good mate who's well connected with Luton - his comment was:-

"He's a great lad for league 1. Top professional and always gives everything. He made a few mistakes in the Championship last season but played really well this year".

Seems like it would be a great signing if we can persuade him.

He’s reported to be on £3500 a week so well within our wage scale especially when you consider Bennett’s was on 18,000 per week don’t know how much the club paid of that and as cook is trimming down the size of the playing squad I think the wages are going to be more than reasonable and I know it’s a step down but it might only be for 1 season hopefully then your at a club that is going to be ambitious so I reckon this is a no brainer for players coming in who are looking at the bigger picture

We were barely paying 10% of Bennetts wage

With the likes of judge, chambers , skuse, and the loanees and more off the wage bill there plenty of wages to dish out I would think

18k a week for Bennetts? Fooking hell. He must have the world’s best agent.
