Mark Ashton - again 09:14 - Jun 2 with 7967 views | Felix1955 | Your new CEO as you know and we’ve seen what he’s had to say to you guys and we’re all falling about laughing. 😂 He said the same to us when he was appointed at City and over his reign he messed up the appointment of a new manager, recruited below par players and essentially took us backwards. We only just avoided relegation last season - but of course that had nothing to do with him....... He’s also brought Andy Rolls as head of fitness with him along with another cronie Luke Werhun our previous club secretary. Rolls was involved in horrendous injury crisis at Asrsenal a few seasons ago and again last season at City when our injury crises was the worst in living memory. Initially you’re going to impressed with Ashton but it won’t take too long before you all begin to question his validity. As for Rolls - you can almost certainly expect a number of lengthy injuries. Anyway, hopefully you’ll be bounce back into the championship soon but if Ashton gets involved in recruitment don’t hold your breath!

"He essentially took us backwards"...... on 09:24 - Jun 2 with 4932 views | Bloots | ....that really isn't the case is it? You were a totally insignificant football club that had never won a major trophy in your history before he came in. You've been desperately trying to justify your reason for existing for decades, the only thing you've achieved is being marginally better than Bristol Rovers. So you haven't gone backwards under him at all.......you are still irrelevant. Cheers.

Mark Ashton - again on 09:25 - Jun 2 with 4888 views | TractorCam | Given that i've been going to football for almost 20 years and your Ashton era has established you as a top half championship team as opposed to league 1 yo-yo, i'd say you haven't gone backwards. If that is the case, he took you forwards first. Ashton was named CEO of the year just 18 months ago, so can't be as bad as you're making out. We already have a squad riddled with injuries so nothing new there regarding Rolls. Maybe things won't go all to plan in the long run, but if you look at Bristol City over the last 5 years and compare that to Ipswich, we have every right to be optimistic about the future. Cheers for your input Felix.

Mark Ashton - again on 09:26 - Jun 2 with 4872 views | BlueBlood90 | Ashton has repeatedly said he's not the man behind identifying players to sign, he simply negotiates the best deal to sign who the manager wants. Think your lot were looking for a scapegoat when in reality he's left you in in a far better place than when he took you on. Look at your ground, training facilities, money he's brought in from negotiating player sales etc. Hard to say he did a bad job.

Mark Ashton - again on 09:31 - Jun 2 with 4811 views | itfcjoe | I don't get this whole point about Bristol City 'going backwards' and the recruitment being poor. Bristol City have been good recruiters over the years, big profits on players, good signings, and generally good progress made until this season. This season has been poor and gone backwards - but for BC to be grumbling about a bad season in the Championship shows how far they've come as a club over the last 5 years or so since Ashton was there

I must admit, for years I paid no attention to Bristol City, then they appointed that odious little cretin Lee Johnson and started throwing serious cash around. I quite enjoyed watching them continue to bottle it at the end of each season, mainly because of self entitled fans like the OP of this thread, who think they have a divine right to be promoted.

I've never understood how highly Lee Johnson seems to be rated either. From the outside looking in, he made an absolute Horlicks of it there given the players at his disposal.

That's what I've been thinking. I keep reading that Ashton has been credited with decent dealings on players - and then you get posts like this, saying don't get him involved in recruitment. Sounds like scapegoating to me. BC are still yet to achieve anything of note

Mark Ashton - again on 10:01 - Jun 2 with 4426 views | STYG | For context, since 1980 when you went down from the top division you’ve spent 19 seasons in the Championship, 20 in League One and 2 in League 3. Average over that time is a yo-yo between Championship and League One. Over the seasons Ashton was at City you finished 8th, 11th, 12th, 17th and 19th. So average of about 13th, essentially 12 places above where you’ve averaged over that time. 3 of those 5 seasons had you finishing above anywhere you’d finished in the previous 40 years bar 4 occasions. In other words Ashton had 3 of 5 seasons finishing higher than you’d finished in 36/40 before that. Not sure what you were expecting - presumably deluding yourself you should be a premier league club, but you can’t compete - even with a bit of funding - with about 15 championship clubs who had premier league parachute payments - some more than one - in that time. On paper from where you were that’s a very healthy and steady increase in performance and pretty stable too for a club that was frequently relegated before or struggling to get out of League One.

Looking at where Bristol City were, on and off the pitch, when Ashton took over and where they are now 5/6 years on I'd be more than happy for similar here!
Mark Ashton - again on 10:14 - Jun 2 with 4281 views | pennblue | I hear what you are saying, but if there were mistakes made at City, then you would like to think they have learned from them. Last season was an exceptional season with the Pandemic, and maybe Roll's fitness strategy may have increased your injury toll, or maybe you were unlucky, who knows. Either way, what we have seen so far, looks far more comprehensive that what we had before. We now have 6 or 7 professional, experienced people, in positions that were previously unfilled.

They are simply suffering from Curbishsly syndrome - that condition where you potentially over achieve regularly enough that doing so again no longer becomes satisfactory because you should be over achieving even more.
