They are very similar to the side that managed to make the quarter finals of the world cup 3 years ago, before we beat them. As far as quarter finalists go, we couldn't have hoped for a more average opponent, it amazed me they got that far then. Watching the 2 games today means if we do finish second then we’d be better off.
Not saying play for second as that is very risky but if we did secure our usual second place then it would be ok.

Spain appear to lack a genuine goalscorer. Morata looks like he’s gone backwards and couldn’t hit a barn door. I don’t think Spain have moved on with their style of play from a decade ago, where they were the side to beat, other sides have sussed them out but Spain haven’t evolved to stay ahead of the pack. c10 years ago they were playing the same way and winning tournaments but they had much better quality players all over the pitch. Now they are trying to play the same way with inferior players. The first good team they meet will pick them off. |  | | |

Agree about the lack of a goalscorer, and Morata's confidence looks shot, he's getting a lot of stick here.
Spain are certainly not trying to play how they were 10 years ago though, they've changed a lot. Generally under Luis Enrique they've been far more direct and agressive. Yesterday Sweden just comfortably soaked up everything, were very disciplined and forced Spain to play in front of them. |  | | |

True of course. Any side is going to miss players like that, but I don't think that was their biggest problem last night. They got into some great positions and simply lacked the composure to put away the chances. There were a few lovely balls into the box, through balls and crosses from both deep and near the byline. Just nobody on the end of them who knew where the net was. |  |

Fair comment about the standard of players, certainly trying to replace the players they have lost would be tough and I agree any decent side would exploit Spain’s weaknesses. I can’t see them going deep into this tournament, they really look toothless up front and a shadow of their former selves. | |
