Easton Farm Park 08:00 - Jun 26 with 3031 viewsMullet

We used to go as kids most years. I’m bringing my 3 year old down this summer to Suffolk, is it a decent day out?

Open to other suggestions too for youngsters in Suffolk if anyone has any. Cheers etc

It was a few years since I took my kids there but I reckon it's half a days' entertainment at best. They enjoyed crabbing at Walberswick and boating at Thorpeness around the same time.

I wouldn’t say it’s worth the money tbh. There isn’t an awful lot there and like the other poster has said, it’s half a day’s entertainment at best. You can get round it all within an hour and come away feeling pretty underwhelmed. Jimmy’s Farm offers 10x more, very much recommend trying there if you haven’t been already.

Are the answers so far they the eyes of 20/30/40 somethings?

Or the eyes of a 3 year old learning the big side world where an empty card board box is a potential adventure?

Whatever you decide avoid Jimmy’s Farm at all costs. The biggest family outing rip off I have ever encountered.

Yes, the boating lake at Thorpeness. When my lad was little we went two or three times every summer. Cream teas over the road.

On the same trips we often took in Orford for fish and chips and to see the lifeboat. Or Leiston Abbey is good for an hour. Halcyon days...

I disagree. When was the last time you visited? It has so much more to offer than most. They have recently opened up the little monkey enclosure. My 1 year old boy absolutely loved it - but was very underwhelmed with Eastern Farm Park, which is very limited. Jimmy’s is much more value for money IMO.

I'd normally agree with you as it was an absolute stitch up a few years back, but they have made some big changes and its far far better than before, when you spent 30 sheets to see 2 goats and a butterfly.

There's a blast from the past. I haven't thought of that place for must be at least 30 years. Used to go quite lot when I was a kid. It was a regular for school trips too.

I don't remember there being anything very much there when I last went, but that would have been some time around 1980.

I have no clue what children enjoy but, as someone mentioned above, surely a spot of crabbing at Walberswick is a good, cheap afternoon out?

Dunwich Heath is good for the kids, you pay to park but I think it’s free, you can do nature trails and pond Dipping, right by the beach, there’s a cafe for cream teas or take a pack
Lunch, lovely place to walk and explore.

Shhhhh!! .....and then a quick stroll down the beach to Minsmere and a lovely view of "the moon falling down" as Junior once said.

Yep, cracking part of the coast along there, some lovely pubs around that area as well for a spot of lunch. And a few IPA’s.

To be fair was a good five years since I went but the kids still refer to it as ‘Jimmy’s Crap Farm’

And the adventure playground there was really good too. Probably used to burn off some energy so parents had a quiet car journey home.

Is over the border but Bressingham Stream Museum used to be good when we were kids, miniature steam trains always good.

He’s probably a bit young for Orford Castle but that’ll be good when he’s a bit older.

Cheers hive mind, award yourselves thumbs up all round. Lots of food for thought.

Walberswick, Minsmere and Dunwich are all definites at some point. Excellent call on Christchurch park. The family can go there between 2:30pm and 5pm on the Saturday after a nice pub lunch and I pick up some bribes from Planet Blue.

a monkey enclosure ? and what part of Essex/Suffolk do these little monkeys originate from? at least in the beginning Jimmys farm had some relevance to the kinds of animals they had, if they are just going to turn it into a poor zoo just as an attraction, Im not entirely sure thats of benefit.

the way I remember Easton Farm Park back when I were a kid, and loved going there, was it was always a working farm, which I think over the years has been diluted for elf n safety reasons & animal welfare,as well as profitability, the dairy especially youll find a herd of cows can quickly chomp through more feed and cost you more than you are getting by selling their milk for (blame the supermarkets for that one), such that yeah theyve had to cut back, and its probably no more than a half day attraction now.
