And I’ll be very happy to start the season with that team/squad.

See how it goes and supplement it with a couple of loans or plug any gaps in January.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

No, a senior CB is a must for me.

We also need a proper left sided winger and another LB.

THEN we'll be ready to truly challenge.

Hmmm, we would still be well short - look at where we'd be if/when we get four or five injuries. Still need about 5 more and I expect they'll come.

I think for the sake of player progression we need to leave space for younger players to be able to step up. For eg, I’d have no problem having Baggott or Ndaba as a replacement for a couple of games here and there. Would be great experience. We’d still have Toto as well.

A more experienced CB than Gibson would be great, but he seems to be our target atm.

Very sadly I think we all need to forget about the great Ipswich tradition of young players coming through, at least for now.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Is it really a great tradition?

How many of the 1981 team came from the academy? (genuine question)

Why?

Cook has said he wants to work with a much smaller squad than anytime recently, this will undoubtedly lead to youth getting a chance when we inevitably get hit with injuries at some point in the season.

The youngsters may not get a prolonged run in the team but they will get a chance to prove themselves in the squad, which is the way it should be. Too much exposure at a young age just leads to too much pressure and injuries as has been the case with too many of our recent graduates.

Quite a few of them. Burley, Butcher, Osman, McCall, Wark, Gates and Brazil all played a big part that season, and Beattie would have if not for injuries. Plus there were other youth team graduates playing bit parts: Turner, D'Avray, Osborne, Steggles, Parkin and Sivell all played a few matches. Not the best example you could have picked!

Hladký - Vincent-Young, NEW LB, Woolfenden, NEW CB - Evans, NEW CM - Burns, NEW LW, Fraser - Pigott

Holy - NEW RB, Penney, Nsiala, Ndaba - Harper, Nolan - NEW RW, Dobra, Norwood - Bonne

So still six gaps for me unless we feel there are any young players who could immediately come in and stake a clam.

Left back, 2 or even 3 wingers and at least 1 CB still needed. If we are still wanting Crooks through the door I still think we have at least 6 signings to come

Because our new owners are utterly focussed on success now as in in the short term, are not embedded in the traditions of the club, and have (it seems) plenty of money to use. Unless someone like a Dyer or Wright comes through I don’t expect to see many youths at all in and around the first team for a long time.

The only time Ipswich have ever had any success has been when there is a core of youth players in the team. 78, 81, 92, 01, 02.

What have the Romans done for us?

Of the other players, Mills had been at the club more than 10 years, Cooper about 7 or 8 and Mariner 4. The Dutch lads were the only really recent additions.

The real question is how quickly does it take a team/squad to gel? I can’t see it happening overnight and while I want us to hit the ground running, I suspect a little patience will be required - and Americans are not noted for their patience. It’ll be interesting and hopefully fun.

On an upbeat note, I couldn’t have dreamed of this amount of ITFC excitement and optimism 6 months ago. The club has moved in a positive direction I for the first time in years! Bring it on.
