Is that they have been portrayed as an issue of "freedom", far outweighing the very minor inconvenience of carrying and wearing one for 90% of the population*.

After all, car seatbelts weren't imposed as a temporary measure, with a promise of being relaxed once the death rates had come down enough.

Wearing a mask stops 95% of your aerosols (droplets of germs) leaving your mouth.
However, if you wear a mask and someone with Covid is standing in front of you and talking to you and they're are not wearing a mask then the mask you are wearing is about 75% effective. Wearing glasses helps in these instances. | |
