Further to my cook out post 00:37 - Nov 2 with 1700 viewsboncho1977

I posted earlier about wanting Cook out and I was accused of being a narwich fan and all sorts.

I’m a 44 year old man and i was a mascot for Ipswich in 1984 when we drew 1-1 with man utd - mark hughes scored for them and Alan Sunderland equalised for us, if i knew how to post a picture i would.

The best thing about this season is i’ve turned my 13 year old son from being a liverpool fan to becoming an Ipswich fan and we both have season tickets, he is absolutely fanatical and after a messy divorce it is the best feeling in the world.

Perhaps i was over critical with Cook however i want my son to witness a promotion or at least the dramas of the play offs. Someone mentioned it is like the season with Burley when we finished 7th. i was at the millwall game when they ripped up the chairs and caused havoc outside the ground.
Other than the San siro experience and narwich 5-0 - the best experiences was the 5-3 bolton and the play off final against Barnsley. I would love my son to experience the highs and lows of a potential promotion chase.

This isn’t glory hunting and perhaps the frustration is we haven’t been promoted for 20 years and haven’t been close for 15 years - ignoring the season we came 6th. Other than the top teams in the prem - whatever teams in the football league haven’t been promoted for 20 years.

I know it’s not Cook - it’s Keane, jewell, mccarthy, hirst and lambert.

I feel a 4th season in the 3rd tier isn’t good enough for a club like ours especially with the budget that Cook was given. If we were playing how we are now and a mid table team and cool had no budget then fair enough. football is about entertainment but it is all also result driven and unfortunately i can’t see us getting near the play offs - i really hope i’m wrong.

Regards the wigan fan, it is an old mate i repped with when i was in ibiza again i can post the picture but not sure how.

Forums are here for people to have an opinion - some negative and some positive. Don’t always assume a negative comment isn’t someone who loves the club but frustration has kicked in.

That was a fun journey on the train back to London with the Millwall fans. Ah, memories.

The post was not really aimed at anyone in particular, perhaps posted to get a reaction and make people think.

Regardless of whether we post positively or negatively, trust me, we are ALL frustrated still. We all want to win, we are all desperate for success.

There was a great post about 'Agenda's' yesterday and the poster was correct, everyone is actually on the same page.

I suppose my point is despite the frustration, we have to make sure we don't put too much pressure on the team and manager too quickly. There is already a weight of expectation on them, they know this, and I think we are in a phase where the squad has been rebuilt and we just need to get behind the manager and the team 100%.

If they don't achieve, whether it is manager or individual players, they WILL be replaced, it is as simple as that, so we don't really need to be frustrated. We now have a hierarchy, and we now have backing to get us out of this league. But it may take more time than we would like. I am still very hopeful it will be this season, it is only 2nd November after all! But these next few games are crucial and we need to play our part and get behind them.

Lack tolerance for different views is a problem today with social media etc. Need a thick skin if you want to state anything different on here!

I want Cook to succeed, I like him, but I am a waiverer. His record at Town so far is appalling, but there are recent signs of improvement and hope. Just sort out the defensive errors and quickly. If we fall more out of touch of playoffs by end of Nov then I’m not sure there is an argument to keep him.

I don't care whether people are pro Cook or not. What I care about is the football club, as we all do, and I think the best way of us having success is for all to put our 100% support behind them this season (which to be fair we are doing - just look at the crowds and away followings, its been awesome so far).

My concern on <constant> social media negativity is that it is likely to be counter productive in what we all want, which is success.

Many, many years ago, someone gave me a copy of the programme for that Man Utd game. Cover was Terry Butcher drinking a glass of champagne on the Portman Road pitch with a Miss Ipswich winner and two blokes in suits.
I think I remember your face on the Junior Blues page as the mascot for the day as well, though the programme is long gone now.

I have no issues with anti-cook posts, where it crosses the line is when it comes over as rabid and taking aim at the more patient supporter, or coming over like a doomsayer trying to recruit disciples. Which we had a fair number of recently. When you popped up with your first post being anti Cook on the back of a couple of rabid nutters being banned getting a strong pushback has to surely make sense.

On the other side of the coin, I didn't think your post was all that over the top - though I do look forward to seeing other contributions on the board from yourself as I am sure you have more than just "COOK OUT" to share.

An issue on here is that, in the midst of thread bombardments by certain relentlessly negative posters (who may or may not be trolling), innocent victims merely expressing frustration or disquiet sometimes get caught in the backlash.

It's a situation where everyone is desperate for us to do well and get promoted out of this division. Some are clinging onto every positive sign that they can see trying to create a positive atmosphere, others despairing at things which have gone awry or not yet been fixed. Neither side is wrong.

The season is in the balance. We've made pretty good progress since mid September, winning over 50% of games, climbing 11 places in the table. We have not lost touch with the promotion race. However, there continue to be problems. We still throw away games from winning positions, sometimes find it difficult to impose ourselves on matches and we have not yet made up the gap opened by our poor start.

Cook has at the same time done a good job in turning around the situation from the opening weeks of the season and not yet done a good enough job in making a run for promotion certain.

I tend to err on the positive side, but that's just me. I don't like to cast off managers until they've been given what I consider to be a decent crack of the whip. There's a long way to go in this season yet. But I can also see why people are becoming frustrated, especially considering the much-trumpeted quality of our squad at this level.

You need to take a deep breath and calm down. Franchise Town are quite near the play-offs already despite wrecking everything to do with the club and starting again over the summer, during a pandemic. Heck they might even now be as good as what Cook inherited - and be able to be 'in touch with the play offs' towards the end of the season, which by my reckoning is some way off.

Quite what it all means - and whether you identify with it is another matter. It's not exactly 'the Ipswich way' whatever that is nowadays. it's quite interesting to see how various obsessives interpret what is going on - which is basically, could be worse, could be better.

I actually believe that if we can create a tsunami sized wave of positivity behind the manager and the players, we cannot fail. So tonight, if we keep the noise levels up, it will translate onto the pitch. Obviously we need a bit of help from the team too, we can't get the result entirely off of singing songs!

I would love to hear more views from Sports Psychologists on here.

For what its worth I'm also Cook out.

Not vocally and I have nothing against him and will continue to support him and hope he can turn it around. But i'm Cook out in that i think he has been incredibly poor in his tenure, still shows massive failings, line up, no adaptability to formation, failure to hold leads and or turn around games 2nd half etc.

I feel another manager could do far better with this squad, which is why I'd be happy to replace the manager, but I wont be vocal about it and continue to support him and the team and hope he proves me wrong.

I will be there tonight once again hoping we can produce a performance against a top 6 side but I'm not particularly optimistic we will.

I disagree with Cook out, but understand your frustrations, especially as I have sons that are now getting into Ipswich Town and I worry that if the club doesn't give them something to get excited about they may lose interest.

I'm encouraged that our form is getting better, although I do worry about what will happen if we get little to nothing from these next few games against really tough opposition.
