Films Of The Year thread 14:39 - Dec 14 with 1401 viewsunbelievablue

As we approach 2022, I wanted to canvas opinion on this year's movie releases and get some inspiration for those I haven't seen. Si here's your chance to offer your choices for favourite films of 2021.

Only one rule: needs to have been released (in theatres or streaming) in 2021 in your home country.

I'm between Dune, Drive My Car and Dear Comrades (thus far) for my favourite.

I really liked the French Dispatch and didn't really understand the middling reviews

Another vote for Dune. I really didn't expect much from it, but it was great

No Time To Die. Everything a Bond movie should be and more, and then (no spoilers) they went there.....

One night is Soho. I don't think I have seen a film quite like it.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I loved The French Dispatch, but Wes Anderson is a bit of a Marmite taste: if you like stylisation, artistic flourishes, high quality ensemble casts and quirky storylines then he's your man.

Last Night in Soho was very good.

I thought Marvel's Shang Chi was very good.

Free Guy was good fun.

Venom: Let there be Carnage was decent.

I liked No Time to Die, but it has divided opinion. I watch every Bond film and I think it's a great addition to the Craig films, and gives him the strongest portfolio over all.

Dune was ok, but I won't bother to watch the next 9, or however many there will be.

I found Spencer Woman into the Multiverse (as I call Spencer, the Diana biopic which features frequent flashback and alternate reality sequences, as well as a 2016 Land Rover in multiple scenes, which PROVES my multiverse theory) to be quite distressing and disturbing.

But my Film of the Year is...

People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan- joyous and with a better storyline than most "sitcoms go to the movies" adaptations, and it wins if only because Steves got to lips.

Judas and the Black Messiah

Unreal acting from Daniel Kaluuya, rightly winning him an academy award. Telling the story of one of the most influential activists in the history of the US. With a lot of parallels to race relations in America today.

I HIGHLY recommend it to all who haven't seen it. So So good

I'm a bit undecided on Dune.
I wasn't totally convinced watching it but at the end I quite wanted to watch it again so I suppose I must have liked it.

I've only seen 2:

Black Widow - I enjoyed it, even if it got a bit of a hammering
14 Peaks - Bl00dy hell

Genuinely, I don't think I've seen a single other film this year. It's been nuts. When not on here or pretending to work, it's been flat out.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
