A bit of me is hoping Gillingham is off 08:27 - Dec 21 with 1543 viewsCheltenham_Blue

but only to give McKenna longer on the training pitch before his first game, and to get his extra coach in the building.

2 weeks of Premier League standard coaching could make a real difference to us.

Altho it might be useful for him to give stuff a trial run, against opposition who are not even unconsciously cooperating and with the pressure of a crowd. To find out which players do (or don't) find it difficult to translate training into the heat of action. An examination of temprament as much as ability.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Gillingham are woeful. It's a good opportunity to get his reign off to a winning start.

I prefer he gets started as soon as possible and takes the positives from the last game into the next. He could learn more about the players from watching a game

PL coaching to League One players? I think he’ll have to adapt as well because L1 players can’t do the same things as PL players. Not sure how much more he can get from an extra week on the training pitch.

Getting wins on the board early would be a huge help to McKenna as a rookie manager. That being the case, I'd rather McKenna started at Gillingham than home to Wycombe.

Cynically, this Covid situation is going to cause a lot of clubs problems — as Gills have found already — and we have a big enough squad to cope fairly well. Rather play the game.

Let's hope having his first game against a depleted Gillingham side who've lost 6 on the trot and presumably haven't trained properly for a week or so is a sign that McKenna is a "lucky general".

I actually think it's a good time to play them, we should be right up for it and they're in awful form. Tick it off, get win 1 under then belt and look forward to a big one at home to Wycombe in front of a 25k+ crowd.

Imagine the first opposition manager of your managerial career being Steve Evans. It can only get better from here, Kieran.

Jesus wept if we can't beat Gillingham after 20 seconds of his coaching, we might as well give up!

RIP Sir Bobby

In all honesty, even if Gillingham is called off the next game is only 48 hours later (Wycombe 28th) - so not really worth it for an extra day/s training.

Wycombe is 29th. At least it better be, otherwise I can't make it.
