Surely that would depend on whether Portsmouth a paying all of his salary or just part of it.

Although if he's going on loan doesn't mean they are paying all of his wages.

Outrageous money, I hope and assume Pompey are picking up a big chunk of that bill now. I think we'll probably strengthen, but you could argue that we still have decent options, especially if we're to play 1 up front with the 'two number 10's'. It's there that we look short IMO, beyond Aluko and Chaplin. In terms of the central forward 1 from the following 3 doesn't sound unreasonable: John-Jules Ladapo Jackson That said we will certainly now see a couple of additions in an attacking sense, I'm pretty sure of that.

We've got Ladapo, Jackson and John-Jules. Reading between the lines of MA's comments at the weekend we'll have to wait to get Hirst, assuming we don't look elsewhere.

The only proven scorer at this level is Ladapo. Need another in there now Pig is off.

The arsenal fella comes in with the same results Pigott had last season. So he's been replaced.

Aha I take your point but mine still stands. Pig has scored goals at this level. There is practically no evidence of goals in this squad at the moment outside Ladapo Chaplin and Burns. This season fills me with dread.

Pigott doesn't and didn't suit KM's system, so he's about as useful as a chocolate tea pot and very expensive. We're better off shifting him and spending the money on a #10, a Celina or someone of that ilk.

I'm usually the same but the way I see it going is Chaplin will end up higher on the pitch if needed and ladapo scored goals in a side that played a different style yet managed to get a good goal record. Also. I personally would like to see double figures from anyone playing in the final Third. Remove that desperation for goals solely from the striker.

FYI, typo on ‘Ladapo’ in the Pigott story.

He scored 30 goals the year before. The fact that NONE of our strikers scored goals is probably more on KM and needing to change something tactically more than anything. After all, Bonne managed 12 or so goals before KM came in then scored just one. Piggot has proven he knows how to score goals at this level.

Not really sure KMc would see him as a lone striker in the system he uses but obviously someone who could potentially be used in that role if needed. Best finisher at the club.

It was 20. Pretty sceptical that we can attribute our strikers' scoring travails to KM. We weren't creating more or better scoring opportunities under Cook, we just had one striker who was scoring with every other shot for a couple of months. When Bonne's shooting form flipped upside down in November, we went from being the most efficient finishers in the league to the least. I don't think Paul Cook magically put Bonne on a hot streak and KM didn't talk him out of it. It was just one of those things.

Dread ? Really ? I think we are looking pretty good. Also, ultimately, none of it matters.

Isn't that because a large part of his wages is his signing on fee - came to us on a free. He'll want to get that paid up, or he's wasted running down his contract. If we get a transfer fee for him, it will probably go in paying up his signing on fee.

Surely his signing on fee will have been paid when he ... signed on?

I don't think there's much chance of getting a fee.

Phil - piggot leaving means striker signing close? on 19:46 - Jul 11 with 3177 views | TomTheWriter | Think it was neccessary for us to let people go now before we replace them. Much better letting Pigott go and then looking for a 4th striker for 6 weeks; rather than signing someone and hoping our 5th choice striker on a lot of money gets picked up by someone. Who knows, Pompey might identify someone cheaper and the Pigott deal falls through. Pompey's owners like to do everything for as cheap as possible You let Pigott go, then you're heading into the open day against Bolton with Jackson, Ladapo, Chaplin going forward, with Aluko, John-Jules & Edwards on the bench for example. That's very strong IMO, meaning we don't need to rush anything unless 1 of those 6 gets a long-term injury. We can take our time getting the attacking left wing-back, direct and dangerous attacking midfielder, and the 'big' striker we all want to score 20-30 goals. There's a reason no League 1 team has made a signing so far that's made me go 'Damn, can't believe we've been beaten to him' - Smith? Vaulks? Hourihane? All great players, but we've got similar.
