He's survived two seasons in Ipswich, he'll probably be alright.

Celina to Stoke on 10:09 - Jul 13 with 5953 views | clive_baker | Shame if he's not wearing a Town shirt for this season, he's a player who is worth the entrance fee. But can't blame the guy if they're offering him more money and football at a higher level.

Oh well. That'll properly test Celina's affinity for the club. Play in League One for us on £10k a week (which I'm guessing would be our absolute limit - if Pigott and Morsy are on £8k - £10k) or go to Stoke for £12k or £15k and play a division above. If he ends up here then he really does love us. Will largely come down to how much he rates McKenna getting us up and his wage being increased to Stoke levels I guess. Also don't see him being a Michael O'Neill type player, so I suppose there's the playing every week to take into account.

With all due to respect to Celina and his team, surely they had a pretty good idea what we could go to before we got as far as making a bid. I can understand not having agreed anything, but being miles apart seems odd. If he was on £20k there and knew we'd be unlikely to offer more than say £10k or even £12k, surely the terms side of things is ruled in or out before we get this far? Surely he can't expect we just pay him 1.5 - 2 times more than everyone else in the first team? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

As Celina is still contracted to Dijon, surely they are still paying his wages in full & the deciding factor will be which club is willing to pay the biggest % of these wages to Dijon, as long as Celina is willing to go there?

All i'll say is celina is still hoping we make a last min push for him , he wants to be here. But got to put himself first if we are messing about.
Celina to Stoke on 10:48 - Jul 13 with 5244 views | berkstractorboy | Hopefully this gives MA an 11th hour chance to sort things or we move on but hope the club can come out and be honest how this has fallen through. the whole he was nearly in and then suddenly miles apart is all very odd and maybe the real truth is we were never close. If we can't afford it due to FFP and wage structure, tell us fans and we will get over it but all the mystery never helps
Celina to Stoke on 10:49 - Jul 13 with 5211 views | Guthrum | Can't really blame him for being tempted by the prospect of playing at a higher level, in a team which was in the Prem just four years ago.

Has anyone officially said either that he was close to signing or that we are 'miles apart'? I haven't actually seen any comment either way from the club itself.

I was assuming both clubs had offered to take him permanently, in which case Dijon would have no interest in the wage aspect and that we and Stoke have met the asking price. Obviously if both offers are loan then unless we match Stoke we obviously won't have a chance.

I would LOVE us to sign Celina, but if we put the money we've put aside to sign him to getting a striker who offers more goals than who we have I'd be happy.

No the club haven't or reputable sources close to the club. When there is a player that wants to be here, the fans want him to be, if you are building a community and you want fans to trust the club as they are with the high numbers of ST sales etc doesn't there need to be some honest comms. Not now while things are still live I am talking after whatever is done is done with Stoke. BTW, I don't trust what Cruncher posting on twitter ignoring him but ADOBRA seems to be ITK and think there is some truth in what he is sharing.

Good point. Celina still has 2 years left on his Dijon contract. I guess they would love a sale rather than a loan, but if it's permanent Stoke (plus other Championship clubs) must be able to offer him a far better contract than Town so hard to see him coming here.

From what Joe and a few others have said, we seem to be able to offer a deal at the same level of 2/3 of Championship clubs but with a significant enough promotion bonus to take them above that. So could come down to, over a 3 or 4 year deal say, whether Celina is prepared to gamble we go up in year 1 or 2.
