You might get lucky and find someone who is better, and has a higher ceiling - but anyone you get in this league is going to have a much lower floor to their performances.
No one of Celina's quality is available, so relying on a PL loan player likely on their first loan who could be superb, but equally could do nothing
I didn’t see loads of Man U when McK was there but a cursory glimpse makes me think they were much the same as we are now; solid, 2 sitting midfielders, full backs up the pitch, no real creativity up front and a lack of goals. Fair..? I dunno. Maybe we just need to sign Ronaldo.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Also, your chances of "getting lucky" improve if you are set up to recruit players at lower levels to kick on and have a recruitment department adept at doing that. For example, MK Dons are probably pretty confident that their recruitment from modest origins is going to do the business for them.
Thus far under GC20 we've shown little inclination to do that and none of our speculative U23 signings have had any pay-off thus far.
He was a player who was part of a collective that finished 11th in the 3rd tier. No where have I said he was completely to blame for that, nowhere, you just put your own spin on it to start a row, which we all know is your modus operandi on here, its getting quite tiresome.
I rate him, do I think he's worth breaking the bank for? Jury's out for me on that, do I think he's a gifted player? Yes of course.
There, I dont think my position shows I've made him out to be Mark Fish, equally I don't think he's peak Thijssen.
But you crack on doing you.
I don't have a modus operandi on here you daft sausage. I just pull people up when they're talking bobbins. It's more of a gift than a modus operandi .
So anyway, there must be plenty of players you don't want back given they were all part of us finishing 11th. It's weird that Celina gets more of that criticism given his lack of pre season and health problems. I imagine you wish we'd sold Wes Burns given he helped us to 11th?

Firstly, I would like us to have signed Celina, he's the one player in our squad capable of unlocking defences and producing moments of brilliance. Particularly in those games when we are not playing well. He clearly wasn't fit when he came to us last season but grew as the campaign went on. His contribution last season was, on the whole, good. I accept he was inconsistent at times but I also agree with those that rightly point out he can't do it all on his own. However, if we have to bust our wage budget to get him, then there has to be a sense of perspective and realism. I think it's unlikely we will get a player who is better than him in League One but we may be able to get one who is more effective. Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin were more effective than Celina last season, even if they weren't as skilful. I am sure that is on McKenna's mind and certainly Ashton's. We need value for money. There is no point blowing the budget on Celina and him sitting on the bench. I still think we need three quality players - a striker, a left-back and an attacking midfielder. If Celina's wage takes up two of those slots, then we have to look at it carefully. You have to remember that while Celina is a cut above most players in League One, he didn't really set the world alight in the Championship with Swansea and that's why he has been linked with the likes of Stoke and Preston and not someone with more Premier League potential. Like I say, I would be happy to sign him but I can see why the club aren't going to be held to ransom.
Surely IF KM was desperate for him. He'd have been the first player signed. Bare in mind his enjoyment of the club too.
I see it as KM has a few options. He's got those in on frees he really wanted and the others are going to cost so there needs to be a balancing act on what is spent where.

But we don't have a bottomless pit, if Stoke are offering more than we are and we are Still hoping to get another 2-3 players in, it's not a shock that it's not all done and dusted. We may have personal terms sorted if we could do a perm deal but dijon are asking for more because of Stoke.. we don't know.
IF the fella was indeed speaking with celinas dad and it's a legit account it appears Dijon are the ones who moved the goalposts not town.

It'll be so disappointing for me if we don't get him. You've got a player of that calibre that wants to join and would choose us over Championship clubs - we need to get it done.
Pre-season doesn't work like that. You can't just catch up.
Mick is/was the sort of manager who prefers hard graft over skill anyway. I think a fully fit Celina under McKenna would be a different kettle of fish.
Presumably thats why he signed Didsy, and had Fraser, Tom Lawrence and Johnny Williams on loan.

And of course Celina himself, who’s return of 7 league goals under McCarthy remains the best return so far in his career
Perhaps Mick did know how to get the best out of him after all, unless he’s been unlucky and not had a full pre season/(insert other excuse) here in all of the other seasons in his career?
Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010
Meanwhile what is he doing during this preseason? Is he at risk of another missed competitive preseason then not hitting the ground running. Same applies to our boy Simpson?

The other seasons weren't in League 1. He's definitely a cut above in this league.
