I was working on the parks mid 80s in Ipswich and my work colleague had Radio 2 on in the van all day so had to work with him in the background. Struck me he did the same show every day. Fast forward 35 years and my brother has Radio 2 on in the car. Steve Wright in the afternoon was still doing the exact same show.
Maybe it's a comfort blanket thing but I don't get who would want to listen to the same drivel every day, every month, every year ... |  | | |

Who's he recording the next dozen shows for? Or is he finally calling it a day?

I dunno, I don't listen to him / Radio 1, 2 or any BBC radio - aside from 4 occasionally.
Hooever - I used to enjoy listening to him in the 80's and early 90's and he was quite groundbreaking really. I guess he went from radio 1 to radio 2 because, well, such is the way of life - but I would happily tune in to him now if he was on the air, ditto Danny Baker on Radio 5 if he or that were still there.
I can understand people or shows getting mothballed because they are tired, out of fashion, boring or whatever but to sack Steve Wright in the Afternoon just shows how absolutely bonkers the BBC are. Didn't they screw Graham Norton over as well, or was it Paul O'Grady?

Steve wright only started on Radio 2 in 1999 so your work colleague and you must be getting mixed up! Either that or in the 80s you must have been listening to Radio 1! |  |

I am very irked by the moving of the specialist shows from 8 to 9 on R2. I used to look forward to the drive home on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday because of people like John Paul Jones, Mark Radcliffe and Whispering Bob doing blues, folk and country shows. | |

Well I remember he was on Radio 1 for years before being switched to Radio 2 so that makes me more knowledgeable than you could ever hope to be and you deserve all the castigation that comes your way!
