As of today we have a Christian King, a Hindu Prime Minister, a Jewish Home Secretary and a Muslim Mayor of London. Add to that a Muslim Scottish Labour leader.
Regardless of their politics, this really does show that multiculturalism has been a success. It's time we started celebrating the diverse culture of our country and the positives that immigration has brought to us.
Agreed. Mind you, we had a Jewish PM in Victorian times - Benjamin Disraeli. That’s not to take anything away from the point you are making which is correct.

Yet we still have a sizeable minority who wanted to get Brexit done(read as to keep out Johnny Foreigner). They fail to realise that we need young willing workers to fill jobs and pay taxes that in turn fund our pensions.

Immigration policy is going to be the canary in the coal mine. If he abolishes the horrendous Rwanda policy, there's hope that he can save his soul.
It's a start, but we still have a very long way to go. Only 1 of um is from a working class family. The others though being from 2-3 different races really come from 2 cultures. Upper class/upper middle class white and Asian families. There is still enormous sways of UK culture not represented at all amongst this ruling class. Also apart from Sadig Khan there is little sign of any social movement. Wealth and a private education is still the standard way to achieve power in the UK at this point

Have to say I was childishly thrilled & delighted when I heard we'd got our first non-white (and Hindu) PM, though I abhor his policies.
A bit similar to when Obama became the first black POTUS - just a shame Sunak doesn't have more of the same political leanings as Obama ...
I find that odd. Surely the policies are the only thing we should be judging politicians on, especially a Prime Minister?
I kind of get what you're saying but their actions are what we need to judge them on and as you say, his policies are not going to be popular with most of us.
We can have Barney the purple dinosaur as PM for all I care but the policies need to be decent before i'll be celebrating any PM.

I have it on good authority that Barney the purple dinosaur is one of those vegans who goes to McDonald's on the quiet for a cheeseburger and milkshake...

Strictly, Disraeli was of Jewish heritage - his father had renounced the faith and had his children baptised into the CofE when Benjamin was 12 years old. He could not have become an MP otherwise, before the law was changed in 1858.
I agree we need to celebrate the positives that immigration has brought us. I'm also very pleased that we have our first Asian (and indeed Hindu) PM, partly for reasons of diversity, and partly because the alternatives were either risky or appalling.
Whether we'd have a Hindu PM if a wider electorate had been permitted to have their choice is a different question. I fear that Mr Johnson would have got the nod again.
Some would also argue that replacing a female comprehensive school student with a male from a particularly elite public school is really a victory for diversity, although I appreciate your post was focussing more on racial and religious diversity.
I'm also not cerrrrtain this is a football thread, is it?

Of course they should be judged on their policies. And BAME politicians should be held to account in the same easy as a white politician.
However, we aren’t discussing his policies. We are discussing glass ceilings being shattered.
When I was growing up, people like Sunak and Khan would have been called P**s at school every single day. People would have wiped their hands after serving him in a sweet shop. I saw it.
It is something to celebrate that the highest public office in the country can be held by a man of colour.

I'm not surprised you find it "odd", as you seem to go out of your way to misunderstand everything I say these days.
All I was saying, as I think is obvious, is that like GB in his OP (7 upvotes) I celebrate diversity - something you see fit to downvote - now *that* is odd

Just put me back on ignore please.
Nah you stick me on ignore if you want to.
That post was perfectly reasonable and wasn't meant as a dig. I was just replying to the point. If you have interpreted it in that way, it absolutely wasn't meant that way.

I thought it was a fair point, as was GB's reply.
Other people have made exactly the same point but you've not had a go at them - as has happened several times before.
Me sticking you on ignore would clearly not solve the problem.
