But isn’t a free kick meant to be an advantage to the attacking team? Even if a defending player was only a yard away, but they still scored then the goal should surly still stand. [Post edited 13 Jan 2023 13:43]

Does it matter if the ball went in? I know that defensive infringements at penalties are ignored if the kick is scored.
Otherwise it would be all too easy to commit an infringement the first time around in order to suss out the attacking team's kicker/tactic, and adjust accordingly for a potential retake. [Post edited 13 Jan 2023 13:41]

If the attacking team gets the advantage then it should be irrelevant what the defending team is doing.
If anything, it makes it an even better goal.

That sounds completely illogical.
If that was the case, you'd have goalkeepers coming off their line all the time for penalty kicks as part of the seemingly-acceptable sh*thousery routine at penalties these days. | |

Good point. Altho I swear pen goals have been scored then retaken coz the keeper came off his line. Not often mind you but could be sure I've seen that before. | |

You realise players can take quick freekicks etc. Pack can take that freekick whenever he wants unless the ref has told him to wait on whistle. And if he's had the whistle regardless the attacking team wouldnt get punished. Ref would give the advantage 100% of the time. | |
