Christ.

Well done M&S. what’ll put quite the dent in the estimated 430,000 jobs lost since Brexit.

a self-imposed 4% loss of GDP and counting doesn't mean there aren't any company's doing well or any jobs going does it? Just based on the Ulverston food store, there are lots of half empty shelves to monitor, after all

I know you're mainly on the windup but anyone trying to prove that Brexit has been good for the economy has got a seriously difficult case to prove.

I'm sure there are some niches where it's worked out nicely but on the whole, it's been a pretty significant net negative, and now we average joes are going to be the ones to pay the price, especially given everything else going on in the world.

You do realise that Briefings for Britain was formerly known as Briefings for Brexit, so hardly objective commentators.

Nice unbiased source there with the main publisher being the ex-head of Policy Exchange which the Telegraph called:

eh ?

I think you mean 'for some of the richest it worked out nicely' but for the country there has not been one sinle benefit, whereas there are daily accounts of some new damage it has caused

Even the most deluded now only claim that some time in the future (never specified) there will be some benefits...possibly

Meanwhile more brexit regulation and cost.

What is the relevance to that article of Brexit. It’s a British firm employing a handful more staff - not the FDI that we need to tackle our deficit.

I do wonder if some of you rightwing cranks are not actually naughty lefties posting up ill informed guff sending up brexiters and all there stupidity.

National newspapers donot post wrong facts or figures. If only that the loss in credibility would far outweigh any supposedl gain.

Merely posting up some unveriable nonsense which opposes facts does not equate to balance. And in this case shows your lack balance (unhinged some might say) as you seek to find someone to back your crank views rather than debate rom an accepted point.

One might just as well argue that for balance any report into child abuse and sexual exploitation should include the thoughts of a peadophile, who claims that children actually enjoy that activity.

Like pretty much every brexiter I have engaged with it's clear that you have started out with an idiot idea and only sought out fellow idiots who will back that idea with unprovable rubbish.

Not a lot of relevance at all. Besides, their number of employees goes up and down by a yo-yo. 65,000 last year but they had 78,000 in 2020. This is probably part of the rebound from Covid.

The interesting point in that article is that they’ll be taking over some Debenhams stores. Much needed, even if it’s only a few. There must be 10s of empty Debenhams stores gradually rotting in town centres all over the uk.

Indeed, and not the highly skilled jobs that we need. That’s not a dig at people working in retail, I’ve done it myself. The point being we have very little diversity to our economy which leaves us very vulnerable in downtowns - as we are overly reliant on consumerism.

It is probably best put in football terms.

I can argue with an Argylle fan about who should have won on Saturday. He might come back with the number of corners they had, possession etc

Blueas would seek out a website that stated that we had won, and argue from there

You question me saying there are some niches, and then proceed to describe one of them...

Even excluding that one, I'm sure there are examples where it has helped a company or two but I would have thought they were in the minority but quite some amount.

But saying they don't exist is just silly.
