We need 20 points from 9 games 22:52 - Mar 18 with 3587 viewsunstableblue

2.2 ppg

That’s 6 wins and 2 draws and 1 loss

7 wins and 2 loss

Based on today that’s possible… but would be a momentous achievement

We need to to match Plymouth +2 points and match Barnsley.

Bit pointless predicting exactly what we need. We just need to keep stacking up the points.

Truly impaired.

I think it’s very possible. My concern Jan/early Feb was that we were struggling to win games and chucking points away/being too soft. Nobody had outplayed us. Not once. But unless you put teams away, they’re always in with a shout.

Roll on 18 March. Nobody can lay a glove on us at the moment. We are bossing games, getting goals and all those clean sheets in a row tell their own story. Soft? Not now.

The January signings have made an enormous difference, especially now they seem to have settled in. Credit to all concerned.

I’m probably being over optimistic, but I think we’ve a real chance now thanks to this improbable run. It’s up to us. I can’t think many of the remaining nine teams will be looking forward to playing us.

I think Churchman that the Derby result may be telling… we are currently flying, Derby struggling

They do play next weekend against a worryingly resurgent Peterborough

Can they get a result that flips their form?! Will we lose some of our edge with the extended break

Barnsley will play a lot of games

Again, we’re all Accrington fans on Tuesday night. They slip there… well that’s game changing

I can see us winning 8 of the 9, maybe even the 9 at the moment, something about us at present is just quite ridiculous to be watching, it's levels above league 1 football in attack and defence at the moment.

a niche perspective

I get the desire to have a definite target but we have no way of knowing what the target will be. Of course we can speculate.

I really think this team is as complete as it gets right now. I could see us having a ridiculous run and just maintaining a pace Plymouth and Barnsley can't live with. We will drop points but I don't think it will be many. Plymouth fans seem oddly relaxed about us and are saying our form can't continue while ignoring their ridiculous home form.

So much to play for and very exciting.

We need to aim for 27 points from 9 games. This has become a battle to see who blinks out of ourselves, Sheff Wed, Plymouth and Barnsley. The others are drifting out of the picture when it comes to the automatics.

Unless Town can keep up this punishing pace throughout April, we will be the ones who miss out (or rather, end up in the play-offs).

From drifting away after Christmas, it’s become very exciting. I don’t know whether the break helps or hinders. I think I’d have preferred to have played next week, just to keep the rhythm of playing matches. But I understand the decision not to. It could work in our favour by providing a nice little rest and reset for the players - especially any with niggling injuries.

The Derby game will be a real challenge. Given our previous inability to win games at the better sides, I’m more confident about it post Bolton and hope our approach is the same as there.

The form of Plymouth at home and their run in still make them favourites and Barnsley are in as good form as ourselves. Realistically, it’s unlikely we will keep winning like this, just as it is the other two. I just doesn’t happen. But there’s nothing to stop us trying and at the end of the day it’s all you ever ask.

If this season fails to work out I hope the owners and management hold their nerve. There’s a lot of good things happening here.

Agree, been thinking this for a few games, absolutely not unrealistic to say we won't lose again. Barnsley will be the biggest test and we'll not be outplayed so I can only see a draw there.

No reason whatsoever that we can't win 7 and draw (min) the 2 biggest tests. That's 23 points, must be enough.

Just checked, Plymouth have only won a third of their 18 games away from home.

That continues we'll catch them

My guess, based on nothing, to get 2nd will see us require 95/96 points

So we need another 21 points from a possible 27. Achievable

I'd say it's entirely realistic to say Town won't lose again this season. We've only lost four all told, one of those being at Plymouth, which has happened to most teams this season. Twice being two of only three games this season when we've failed to score. The final example was Oxford in the fog.

We are very hard to beat.

We're looking so confident right now, the signings in Jan have turned us into a better side without doubt, the Wolf and Burgess partnership has really secured us at the back, infact we have partnerships all over the pitch forming now.

Before the game yesterday I was saying something very similar to my father-in-law. Ten games left, 30 points available. 95 points (effectively 96 with goal difference) will in all likelihood be enough to get second place.

Agree though, we look silly good. But it's footy and it always throws spanners in the works. But that can still happen to our rivals innit.

Can't see Sheff wens dropping 3 games for us to catch them, so better that they win the title and beat Barnsley. That makes our Barnsley game a real 6 pointer.
Just hoping Plymouth slip up but their fixtures look good on paper. Hope Exeter are up for a local derby game.

Owls have a few injuries and because they tend to win by fine margins there isn’t that depth of confidence in the fan base

Barnsley on the other hand are flying… and Tedic their Man City loanee out since Oct/Nov is back… and scored at Wycombe… providing some more strength on the bench

Tuesday results are going to be big

Accrington dropped into the 4th relegation place and are properly fighting for their lives having lost to rival MK

Not strictly true. They just need to get two more points than Plymouth and six less than Barnsley over the remainder of the season, assuming their goal difference holds up, which it should given the vast number of players. That doesn’t sound too demanding.

Winning 2/3rds of our remaining games feels extremely doable right now, I'd say.
Had a couple of our harder home and away games, fairly comfortable in both. Are Derby and Peterborough going to offer a massive amount more than Bolton? Will Wycombe be much more of a challenge than Shrewsbury?

We can be extremely confident going into all of them.

I think Accy are the second worst side in the division after FGR and not the difficult side they used to be unfortunately so I think Plymouth might just turn them over.

I will be watching the Barnsley v Wendies game on Tue with interest. Hopefully it will be a blood and guts local derby that ends in a draw.

Posh are such a weird side so goodness knows which Posh will play against Derby but I think by the time we play Derby they will have lost two on the bounce so will be dangerously wounded.

If I had to sum it all up, I actually think their current form and the distraction of the Pizza trophy will see Plymouth drop out of the top two but if Barnsley beat Wednesday on Tue and us on the 25th Apr they will be our main threat to pip us for automatic promotion

I don’t think we can look at it like that this year. We need to get two points more than Plymouth from now until the end of the season and match Barnsley. That’s it.

Historical points averages are getting higher each season.

Traditionally I would agree with the idea of ideally playing next week and maintaining momentum. But the rest time for the players is a positive, and if there's one thing I'm sure about it's that this fantastic management setup we have will know exactly how to make sure that the players are just right to go against Derby, with fresh legs and fire from the start.
