Every rational bone in my body says we’ll be fine on Saturday…. 18:53 - Apr 27 with 2374 viewsITFC_Forever

The form we’re in.
The form they are in.
How good we are.
The promotion experience in the squad.
How well we’ve come through the last couple of months.

But this is football, and more to the point, Ipswich - if there’s a way to make life hard for ourselves, we’ll find it.

Sometimes form goes out of the window and football does throw up surprises.

However, there is something very different about this team right now. The convincing nature of how we are winning games. The fact we are not looking like losing. The fact we only need 2 draws or Wednesday to slip up once. I understand exactly what you are saying. There is no room for complacency. I am sure this team won't be. Could there be two freak results and Wednesday do the job? Yes. It doesn't feel likely at all.

We are on the brink. It is exciting but still nerve-wracking all the same. I would love us to get the 100 points and 100 goals too. In fact, I want that more than winning the league! There would be some odd sense of satisfaction to be that good, for it to get us up (what really matters) and still not secure us the title!

Indeed, it is hard to see how we won't see it through, based on the evidence of the last few months especially, but that doesn't stop that seed of doubt from setting in my brain!

Exeter in dreadful form, carrying a bunch of injuries, will probs play some kids and may not have a full bench. One last hurrah from our regular starters and I think we may batter them. Confidence here is high!

I recall FA Cup SF 81 - IIRC we were by far the better team, and lost.

Football's like that.

My optimism is based on the last 2 games, I believe KMcK can walk on water and turn water into wine, so his team shredding Exeter "should" be a formality.

There's a very organic connection between the fans, players, staff, in fact throughout the whole club... The players are thriving off the big crowd atmospheres, and look like they're enjoying it.... There's 'll be no nerves from the players on Saturday. And unlike some of us, they won't think it's done, until it's done..
I totally trust them..

'nerve-wracking' - I was going to make a seaweed joke there (I almost couldn't kelp myself), but then I looked it up and you can, of course, shell it either way.

I don't have any nerves about it whatsoever, but half an hour before kick off it will suddenly hit me just as it did on Tuesday night. We really ought not to fear anyone, McKenna will continue the one game at a time mantra and the players will too. The fan base in full party mode should be able to swing us back around should there be any mishaps. COYB

I think a lot of people felt the same before Cheltenham. We’ve been pretty unstoppable at home though and hopefully won’t have 50 mph winds to deal with. But you never know do you? That’s what makes the game so damn addictive.

I like to think my nerves have been our lucky charm! Every game when we HAD to go on that run, beat those lower teams, the get a result at Bolton, I've been on edge , and then the boys just keep getting better! I will start my pre match nerves Friday lunch time in The White Horse in Felixstowe!

With my amateur maths, I think we have a 96.3% chance of getting an automatic promotion place in that there are only three possible scenarios out of the 81 possible result permutations where we wouldn’t go up automatically which is a LL, DL and LD with Wednesday winning both their games.

I’m quietly confident.

Your last two scenarios still take us up if Plymouth lose both of theirs ... which is very unlikely too but on raw permutations is a 1 in 9 or 2 in 81 if you are factoring in our results too. Does that bump the percentage up? Presumably form and probability of results then adjusts it further.

EDITED as 2 in 81 not 3 in 81 as losing both would leave us behind Plymouth still.

Recent performances and squad depth provide plenty of reassurance.

To not go up, SW have to win both their games AND we need to lose both or lose one and draw one.

I just cannot see those sets of results, not with this team.

The team also have had a lot of big crowd/big game experience in recent months, so Saturday will not be a completely new experience.

If Exeter were in a position where they needed a win to stay up, I might agree that it could be one of those games… they’ll give it their all I’m sure, however, I just think we’ll have too much for them

Of course there should be doubt. That’s sport, that’s football, that’s ITFC. Especially ITFC.

But there’s something about McKenna’s team that’s different. There’s a crushing relentlessness about them. Just get it done, lads. Pleeeeese
