Rant of the Day 10:10 - Jun 5 with 3891 viewsblueasfook

I am really PIG SICK of hearing about Phil Schofield/Holly Willoughby. My BBC app is even sending me newsflash updates about the whole pathetic saga. I am emigrating to somewhere they dont talk about This Morning.

BREAKING: HOLLY WILLOUGHBY HAS RETURNED TO THIS MORNING

This is literally breaking headline news. The most ridiculous news alerts since Vardy and Rooney went one on one in the rich and bored attention seeking championship.

Either, not fussy. But I expect some Willoughby action if I have to do Phil.

You have to question the media's motives for keeping this going.

Are they going to keep milking this until Schofield is found unresponsive in a bathtub.

It's pretty relentless isnt it. Similar to the Caroline Flack thing. Who would want to be a celeb!

The BBC does itself no favors by covering this irrelevant fluff. Should be nothing more than a 1-line footnote in an entertainment round-up.

I haven't watched This Morning since I was a student and it was Richard and Judy and the noncey weatherman.

I broke my arm on Friday and it was on the big screen in the fracture clinic waiting room so I was basically forced to watch it for a couple of hours. What a load of shYte, you'd have to be brain dead to sit through that every morning.

Personally I think it's all a bit strange and I can't see what he has done wrong.

I think though that some people believe the young chap was groomed at an early age.

I also suspect some in the organisation think that Phil knew more than he chose to let on about his brother.

It all seems a bit weird, maybe there is more to it all but for me (not that I lay in bed thinking about it) he hasn't really done anything wrong. Legally anyway.

I mentioned on an earlier thread that I sensed a bit of homophobia in the coverage, and got some stick for doing so, but I am glad to see that I am not the only one.

https://www.petertatchellfoundation.org/philip-schofield-homophobic-double-stand

Certainly the first thread on TWTD on the matter contained a lot of homophobic banter which just doesn't seem appropriate in this day and age.

Interestingly, Schofield also got a lot of stick for lying but surely all affairs involve lying, and maybe it was even more difficult for him, given he was not known (especially by his family) to be gay?

He's been tried by Twitter and as usual, Twitter only knows one verdict.

There are some names on Twitter who people have decided are guilty and say everything will come out about them when they die. I won't name names but my point is that there is a very low bar for proof on there.

Many of them would happily have wrongly convicted Nicola Bulley's husband.

We certainly have become a very judgmental society, often based on only part of the story.

Whatever happened to "live and let live"?

One of those chicken and egg situations.

It seems to be regularly the top story in the "Most Read" section so people are obviously interested, but could just be interested because the media are pushing it so heavily.

I'm with most on here that I couldn't really care about This Morning but I feel I'm not really their target audience.

Miss Slave and I would agree with you then. And also with DJR's homophobia point. Not sure who wrote Willoughby's speech for her but " it must have been bad because he had to resign" doesn't really cut it.
Social media gone mad.

In many ways it reminds of the whole Corbyn saga....

Agree. The show is Blue Peter for adults. All parties need to get a grip of themselves.

No one cares.

Don’t worry. Prince Needy is in court today which should be enough to push the vacuous efforts of three PR teams protecting their ‘brand’ off the front page.

So he's had a gay fling with a 20 year old man who he knew from when he was a boy?

Playing Devil's Advocate here, if he'd been 20, knew the boy and then 10 years later they had a fling (so 30 and 20), would such a big deal have been made about it?

This could very easily turn into a Caroline Flack scenario with trial by Twitter without people knowing the full story.

On the homophobia front, it had shades to me of the spurious argument for having a higher age of consent for homosexuality, namely, that young men would be corrupted or taken advantage of.

Don't forget that the homosexual age of consent in England and Wales was 21 until 1994, and only reduced to 16 in 2000, following an ECHR court ruling.

To make the point, Bronski Beat's first album in 1984 was called The Age of Consent, and listed on its inner sleeves the different ages of consent in different countries.
