Slicker to be Number 2? 18:28 - Jul 8 with 3018 viewsNutkins_Return

I do wonder if Slicker may in fact be number 2. That's the 3rd keeper we have signed in the window. Just wonder whether they have identified him being someone good enough to deputy and free up a slot in the squad since his age means he won't count?

Phil any insight on that? Obviously Hladky is for now but pretty common knowledge he wants to play more.

Slicker being from Man City and very focussed on playing out from the keeper makes him ideal in theory for McKenna ball.

Phil has already allured that Nick Hayes will probably be sent out on loan to get experience and Slicker would be number 3.

I just think at best 50/50 Vaclav stays. Think Hayes will go as well.

I guess Phil has been told that. Im surprised though that a keeper who plays for Scotland u21s and from man city, is ok with being a no 3.

I thought it sounded like an investment for the future…

Sounds like a fee?

The other keeper was youth teams only.

So not sure Slicker is marked as number 2. McKenna will want someone who can immediately deputise Walton if injured… and that feels like Hladky.

Slicker sounds like he suits McKenna style with good feet.

I know keepers often take more time to make their way to first team football but at 24, Hayes seems nowhere near. I know he was injured for the second half of the season but at that age he should at least be number 2 here. It begs the question, do they think he's good enough? He needs to be playing somewhere, otherwise his career may just pass him by.

First team football in 2 years or so perhaps vs. never and a wage increase is a reasonable sell I'd reckon.

I think if Hladky goes, which I think he might, then we'll sign someone else. We've been looking at Luke Southwood, although he seems to be on his way to join Cheltenham. Hladky's not desperate to get away or anything like that, from what I've been told, but you'd think at 32 he'd want to play first-team football regularly.

With simms signing for Coventry, do you think we might still show interest in Colby Bishop?

I guess we still like Hirst but that must be in the balance too.

I would have thought….and I may be wrong.
That any player who has made a match day squad assembled by Pep in the last few years including Champions league involvement, must have a certain amount of qualities. Going to be a number 2 let alone 3 somewhere isn’t in his 13 year sweeper keeper education. Undisclosed but didn’t come cheaply that’s for sure.

But he hasn't been i one of Pep's squads, has he? And what was his Champions League 'involvement'? I mean obviously that's no disgrace , - City had four 'name' keepers on their books last season, plus Trafford.

Fair enough, - though I note Carson was on the bench, and it was Slicker's birthday.

We’ve had 2 offers rejected for Bishop.

I do wonder however, given the Pompey manager last week basically admitting his interest in Camara, whether we’ll see another Harness/Pigott deal with them this summer. Bishop, for some ££ plus Camara on loan.

I don't think there was anything in that report, least it was dismissed when I asked about it, although that was some time ago.

He wasn’t even Rochdale number 2 last year. Didn’t make the bench after 17th September and season long loan cut short.
