That was the other end of the spectrum, was that a record at the time? This year 70 is probably enough, no one seems to want 6th! Shows how much lower the standards are, further down the league

What’s particularly nuts is after 34 games last season we had 66 points. After 34 games this season we’re sat on 72. 6 more points, and at a higher level. Nuts.

I see what you're saying, but don't you think McKenna comes across as a bit smarmy? (RIP Fishers)

So we can expect to be on 78 points with 2 games left next season in the Premier League?

Well quite. Standards have slipped somewhat and of course it's typical of teams like Naarich who have those lower standards. A 1-1 against a just-above-the relegation-zone Blackburn is all that can be expected of makeweights. Their next game is against a 3-losses-on-the-trot Sunderland at home - a draw at best. Naarich are simply not play-off ready.

That's how I feel, but I don't think we are. I've been feeling like this for 18 month and it hasn't happened yet. Even when we are clinical and go 2 or 3 up fairly early (which isn't that often), we then seem to ease off. Presumably it's to manage fitness, so no complaints there. It's certainly within us to batter someone though. If everything clicks and we're really on it we create enough for 8 or 9 goals.

Charlton & Exeter at home towards the end of last season were pretty dominant. I know we *only* put the 6 past them, but those two were both top drawer performances. Especially Exeter, with the pressure and expectation on the squad that day - they turned up big when it counted!

The issue is I'm not sure if any of them are outside of the top four. They're just not consistent which is why so many of them are hanging around. Saying that, there does seem to be a slight gap growing between Coventry (51) and Sunderland (47) now.... but somewhat amazingly, that's less than the one between us and Southampton.

Pffft with that sort of mediocre total that'll mean we've blown the chance to win the Premier League title. Rubbish!

How about in 99, 2000 and 2005 when we ended up 3rd? 86, 87 and 85. We needed one more win to finish 2nd. Suggests 90 points would do usually. That's now achievable with 6 more wins from 12. Might be enough, but 92 or 93 more likely.

We were Champions in 91/92 with 84 points. Last time we gained automatic promotion to top flight.

At the moment: Ipswich - 72 Plymouth- 40 Sheffield Wednesday- 32 Plymouth are in mid-table and look (relatively) safe from relegation. This was the championship table last season= this was from the 15th March 2023- https://www.royals.org/tables/150323.php
