This Spain team compared to England... 20:29 - Jun 20 with 2598 views | thebooks | Did get a bit peeved at the BBC pundits blaming it all on Kane not pressing enough, a modern version of "they need to get stuck in more". As if Ollie Watkins will solve all our problems. Still, early doors and all that. Those Italian coaching jacket/cardigans (jardigans?) Bit undecided but erring towards fashion classic.
This Spain team compared to England... on 20:34 - Jun 20 with 2526 views | Swansea_Blue | The Italians have a way of making the utter sh*t become desirable. I’m not sure how they do it. Who’d have thought cardigans would be all Milan catwalk this year 🤷♂️

This Spain team compared to England... on 20:35 - Jun 20 with 2529 views | Illinoisblue | I am convinced the Italian bench are all sipping coffee, smoking, and gesturing wildly. With an occasional slit throat gesture to the assistant ref.

This Spain team compared to England... on 20:35 - Jun 20 with 2523 views | Mercian | Shearer does my head in. Saying he retired from International football when he was Kane's age as he could not get back and press as much he could when he was younger and without actually saying it suggesting he should do the same. Kane should not get back and press, Bellingham and Rice can do that. Kane actually drops too deep as far as I'm concerned. [Post edited 20 Jun 2024 20:36]

This is the same bloke who said the other night that it doesn’t matter if Kane only gets one touch as long as it’s one that counts. Well he did tonight but now he’s got to track back more as well?
This Spain team compared to England... on 20:56 - Jun 20 with 2321 views | Vaughan8 | Kane criticism is very odd. No-one played that great today. Kane is one of the best goalscorers in the world, and unless England stick 2 upfront, Watkins is always behind him. Personally I wouldn't be adverse to 2 up front, but it seems the old fashion thing to do.

It could be done with 4-2-2-2 formation which is rare but would suit England's players. Two holding midfielders, two wide attacking midfielders/narrow wingers. Either a flat two of Watkins and Kane up front or Foden or Bellingham playing behind Kane as a support striker. It would take Saka out of position but he is a versatile lad who has played as full back, wing back, wide mid and out and out winger in his relatively short professional career. Needs to stop dropping so deep. It's a carbon copy of how bad we were when Rooney used to do the same.

This Spain team compared to England... on 21:38 - Jun 20 with 2128 views | TheBoyBlue | Kane wasn't the only one not pressing, it needs the whole team to do it to be effective, not just one player. However, he was dropping too deep and Watkins definitely pushed the Denmark defence back further so made a difference. But hardly anyone joined him in that and the passing was still dire, so no he's not the answer on his own.

You press from the front. Nothing to do with getting back [Post edited 20 Jun 2024 23:57]

This Spain team compared to England... on 00:46 - Jun 21 with 1906 views | ReusersTown | It isn't just his pressing though, it's his overall mobility. Everyone is questioning why this team full of vibrant young talent isn't looking so, but to tough to play the football everyone thinks we're capable of with a striker who can't run.
This Spain team compared to England... on 04:55 - Jun 21 with 1789 views | MK1 | They won 1-0 with an own goal. Tournament football isn't the same as league football. We are through, that's all that really matters.

It’s a no from me, but the Italians always manage to look so damn stylish whatever they wear. Rotters! Beautiful country too, Kane? Scored so you could argue he did his job. But tbh he was truly terrible. Was he wearing divers boots for a bet? George Hirst would have been far more effective. So would Damien Hirst come to that. But it wasn’t just down to Kane and it was wrong to focus just on him. [Post edited 21 Jun 2024 6:43]

We're not definitely through, there's now a scenario where we finish 3rd in the group and would only qualify if we're one of the 4 best 3rd placed teams . .

Actually hope we don't qualify. Feckin torture to watch us in this tournament. I'd rather we go home and call an end to the Southgate era.

If Spain had scored 5 it wouldn't have flattered them. They have also won their group with a game to spare so can now rest players, involve more of the squad and go into the knockouts full of confidence. All of that matters a lot when you compare it to England who are not mathematically through, who have no clear gameplan, lethargic and with a coach lamenting the loss of a defensive midfielder in a team that creates next to nothing.

Totally agree, especially as our 1st and 3rd games were/are 2 am kick-offs for me. Last night was 11 pm, watching that drivel was exactly as you say, torture.

It should be him starting it though and the others following, you can't have the midfielders run past him to press with him just standing there.
