The 1982 1-0 D'Avray was my first game. Miserable day, Town near the bottom of the table early season and the Pioneer stand not quite complete but open.
Also at the 2-2, directly inline with the saunders incident in the Pioneer upper. Has there ever been such an obviously poor refereeing decision?

My first ever game at Portman Road was vs Liverpool in October 1970. Town won 1-0 with a goal from Mick Hill. I'd love to see that score tomorrow. Just hope it's not the score when I last watched us play Liverpool 22 years ago!

First match at PR. 1985. 2-1 win, Kevin Wilson winner. Train back to London straight after final whistle , coach to Scotland, ferry to Northern Ireland. 17hrs travel, but a very tired and happy 15 year old who was busting to get to school the next day to see his Liverpool supporting mates

I remember as a kid seeing Town playing LFC in an FA Cup game at PR. I started in thd North Stand. The Stand was half n half Town and Scousers. No segregation, except maybe for the thin Blue line of police stood from the back to front in the Stand between us. The scousers were humorous ( if you could understand their accent!), but my god they were a bunch of thieving little toe rags. Me and my friend stood there probably ly resembling a football outlet shop as we were covered in Town badges, silk scarves znd hats , as you did in those days. They were all round us nicking stuff off us. We both got over thd wall onto the pitch ( along with a lot of other Town fans escaping the maurading Koppites as they streamed I yo thd Stand just before ko.
The atmosphere was electric. We ended up in Churchmans and my abiding memory was Mills scoring a rare goal at the NS end and running the full length if the pitch as (I think) we won it. ALL the stands had blue n whites scarves up singing " You'll never walk alone "... Town fans around the ground as a whole, rarely made a noise or a show. So that was z bit special .
How times have changed.....as thd world will see tomorrow.

I think that game was in match of the day and I was allowed to stay up and watch it. The first Liverpool game I was present at was a 1-1 in 1977. I don’t remember anything about it tbh. After that, I saw most of the Liverpool home games with mixed fortunes. The most memorable were the two FA Cup games in 92.
1980 I think. My first North Stand experience alone. It was feral.
Coins chucked, gob spat, caged like animals, rows of cops, surges, singing so loud, scarfs on wrists, smoking in the stand....2-2 result? ( Edit 1-1)
Liverpool fans were starting to do Euro fashion ( from their trips where they robbed the shops when travelling to see games) golf wear was creeping in and wedges were big ( Bowie - Low influence).
Ipswich were still a bit double denim. A few rudies and skins. Loads of old boys with strong Suffolk accents. Kelly from Maidenhall climbing to the top of the barrier that separated the fans...soft lad ..the police belted him when he came down..covered in gob and cut by coins and darts.. Loads of mouthy yougun's. Madness on the radio and at football.
West stand tomorrow..way up high.

Does anyone remember the 1984 0-0 draw at Portman Road? I sat in the West Stand and Mark Brennen was clean through on Grobbellaars goal when Alan Hansen blatantly hauled him to the ground?

April '85. That was the one game I missed in my sequence in the OP, no idea why as I would have been very prolific by then. We definitely owe them don't we.

I was at the game but forgot about that. Grubby Dean Saunders in 1992 2-2 game is the most memorable cheat moment. Never forgiven.

The league Cup semi final draw in the early 80's. Probably the most violence I've seen after a game at Portman Road ever and most of it from Town fans.

The windy fa cup tie in 92 stands out for me. I was 13 and we were flying high at the time. In a game marred by the weather we more then held our own and could of won it with a header against the crossbar I think it was john Wark maybe. It was another sign in an increasingly promising season that this could be our year. The replay was a classic..that Jan molby free kick should of been brought back at least 5 yards but there you go 🤷♂️ as for the perfectly timed tackle by phil whelan on Dean Saunders which was given as a penalty. Still probably the worst decision I've seen at Portman rd to this day. But when the equaliser went in there was delirium..some games just stick in your memory

1976 1-0 Mariner (one of his very early goals). That and the windy cup game 0-0 are the only two i've done i think. Still not been to Anfield
Mariner’s goal was one of the best headers ever seen at PR.
My first memory of ITFC vs Liverpool was a year or two earlier. Emlyn Hughes scored a 25 yard rocket in a 1-1 draw at PR which was on MOTD, can’t recall our goal.
