Na, not in CM. Both CM's in our system need an understanding of each others game. Phillips and Morsy are total strangers at the moment. The fact he can't play next week means he has time to get to know his teammates with no pressure. I think it'll be better for him in the long run than chancing throwing him in at the deep end after his confidence was at an all time low last season. |  | | |

My thoughts are we needed energy in the engine room. In stead the manager start with 2 players well north of 30 years old. Yep we were fine first half. But knackered after that. Hence start Philips, give him an hour/70 minutes and bring on a finisher. That way we have a fresh player for next week and Philips can bed in ready for the Wombles. | | | |

Bit full hardy for McKenna that. Not his style. The engine room needs understanding and Phillips would have struggled today without knowing our system. 2 weeks on the training ground and McKenna will get him up to speed on all things Ipswich. Today was just about dipping our toe in to see how hot it is. As it turns out, not that hot at all. All positives from that game. |  |

Agreed, apparently they also want to gradually introduce him, to ensure he is up to speed on our play patterns. One of the issues he had at West Ham was that he was dropped straight into a team that plays very differently from City and Leeds and then struggled. Kieran was to manage his introduction and develop his confidence. |  | | |

I think McKenna wanted to give Premier League to as many of the old gang as possible, as a reward.
Realistically, how often is Taylor going to play from here on? The same with Harness, who will probably be sold if we bring in a left sided forward (Clarke) which we are definitely hoping to, & Al Hamadi will likely get a loan move to the Championship if we get Broja or another centre forward in.

In the moment I was looking for Phillips, but on reflection it was of course the right call for all the reasons above.
Phillips will be in the stands at City and no doubt will be under strict instructions to familiarise himself with the patterns of play.
Most people's expectations of nil points after the first two games are most likely going to be met, but how many teams are going to take points off City away and Liverpool at home?
Very few of the teams in our mini league.
These two results will even out after our main competitors have played those two games. |  |

I wasn't surprised.
Not least because it's more difficult coming on as a CM than a forward imo. But also because of his spell at West ham and the desperation of the media for this spell to follow suit.. imo if he had played and we'd had a heavy defeat you can guarentee it would have somehow been his fault.
Best to let him join. Train. See how we play. Get him working alongside morsy and gradually bring him in. |  |

It was the an example of being too open instead of managing the situation at 1-0, which McKenna mentioned after the game. Morsy could have been more forward thinking with Phillips holding. But I appreciate the arguments made by others about why he didn't play. | |
