So on the eve of our return to the Premier League something caught my eye during the worldwide media coverage of the pre-macth press conference.

I didn't think I'd be this p*ss*d off but the presence of a small logo I wasn't familiar with has pretty much crushed a lot of my excitement, especially after the unveiling of 2 excellent signings.

What logo am I talking about?

The 8XBet logo.

It's also on the footer of the not quite up-to-date official club website as one of our club partners alongside Greene Kings, Carabao et al.

Never heard of 8XBet? You're not alone...their a white label of Isle of Man facilitator TGP Europe who also licence DEBET, 12BET, NET88, FUN88, SBOTOP & STAKE.COM

When Man City partnered with 8XBet in 2022, they claimed the firm were founded in 2018 but no one, no one, could pinpoint any details about who owned them, where they are based and when exactly they set up.

The company that "own" them weren't actually set up until 2021 and their domain wasn't registered until 2020.

Sadly, Our club is now guilty of promoting illegal gambling in the Far East but you'd be forgiven for be being none the wiser as these deals (Town haven't announced it, formally) and firms are shrouded in secrecy.

Sorry for being a negative Nelly, but this has really triggered me!

Difficult one

One hand. You've got to fund transfers anyway you can

On the other. For all the community stuff Ashton blows out it can't be further away.

So on a footballing sense it's fine. Many others do it

But morally it sucks

Given the negative publicity that is normally attracted by the announcement of such partners, maybe it's a deliberate decision not to make an announcement?

Those other brands are legit as far as I know.

Any UK-facing stuff will be, but that (if it even exists) will be purely to give a veneer of legitimacy.

Their true raison d'être, though, is to circumvent local gambling laws, and facilitate illegal gambling in their 'home' nations, with all the issues with regulation/ownership/money laundering that go with illegal gambling.

Not sure about that.

It's not just gambling companies who use UK grounds to advertise foreign products.

It's a global game. We often see adverts for Lays crisps during the CL

That's true, but not in the case of these Asian gambling companies with little/no European presence.

Gambling and, by extension, advertising gambling is illegal in their home countries. As the PL has such a massive audience, sponsoring PL teams is a very easy way to flout bans on advertising, and get your illegal brand in front of your target audience.

We will probably see similar (but slightly different) tactics once the sponsorship ban comes in in 2026. It wouldn't surprise me at all (legislation dependent) if there is suddenly a proliferation of sponsors such as DafaNews, News365, NewsWay etc.,

And, let's not forget, they're exactly the same kind of company as BK8, who we roundly mocked Norwich for teaming up with.

As a professional gambler I agree with you. All bookies are absolute scum of the earth. They only want losing punters and only use the responsible gambling bs when it favours them. Betfair if you deposit online they want to know all sorts and wrongly use avoiding money laundering as a reason for it. Yet walk into a paddypower shop and deposit 4 figures into a Betfair account no questions ask, just one of a million examples I could give. They want problem gamblers no matter what they tell you.

As for these non UK site I had one site refuse to send my balance of £10600 and after 3 years I have given up getting it. They are pure scum.

They are a bad side effect of football and if we want to have the best chance ever we need to use that market like others. But be clear, despite so much beautiful work from ITFC our morals are not 100% on point, otherwise partners like this we would decline and forgo the large financial offering from them.

8xBet are using Ipswich's Premier League existence to advertise gambling services to people in countries where gambling is illegal, per the Macolin Convention, of which the UK is a signatory.

8xBet, like other Asian making bookmakers, is linked to a sophisticated web of OCG's aswell as human rights violations. Most of the brands I named above are a front for a Chinese cybercrime syndicate.

Clubs are allowing themselves to be USED by these organised crime groups to target people abroad and make themselves, at least morally, accomplices to this activity and potentially make their own fans in those countries, victims.

Bottom line: this IS NOT a normal gambling sponsor. It's fine to think it's OK to take legit gambling money but to think that it is OK to take money from organised crime groups to advertise illegal gambling is totally unacceptable and morally reprehensible.

Maybe it's my age, may be my poor moral compass, but why do people get so tetchy about this stuff.

Does it really matter in the wider picture ?

Not looking for an argument, just curious why it causes such upset ?

For me there are a number of facets:

1) We're (knowingly or not) supporting and platforming illegal activity
2) With the links to organised crime that these Asian gambling firms have, it's no different to accepting a sponsorship from the mafia
3) The general distastefulness of accepting a sponsorship from purveyors of an industry that actively seeks to cause addiction and wreck lives
4) The potential links to human trafficking. This is a firm that, in a job advert, stressed that they are 'not human traffickers'.

It’s shady as fk. Clicking on the 8XBet logo on the ITFC.co.uk website takes you to the 8XBet Twitter page where they proudly say they’re the official betting partner of Man City. And weirdly their most recent post from May 27th talks of being the partner with Leicester City.

Every other recent sponsorship deal has been proudly announced and shared on social media by tne club. Yet nothing about 8XBet. Guess we’ll just cash the cheques and turn a blind eye. Next up, crypto scammers as an official club partner?

The whole thing is weird, the link on the club home page leads to a twitter account that barely tweets, and the twitter account has a link to a website that doesn't exist. Sure the whole point of advertising is to get people to place a bet...so weird.

Yesterday they advertised 8xbet.com which now directs to 8xbet.men which is a weird splash screen with three CHelsea players, that links to 8xbet.co.uk.

It appears to be linked to these folk
