“Look, we've got four points out of the fixtures that we had and we've got results in four of the games.”

“If we had won one of the games, drew one of the games and got battered in the other five, we'd still have four points.”

“If we had won two of the games and got battered in the other five, we'd have a couple more points, which, of course, we'd rather have the points, but would it really signify the development of the team, the journey that we're on, how we're going to finish the season? I'm not sure it would.”

This immediately settles any anxiety surrounding this first win situation and stops making every game feeling like a pressure cooker in my opinion. Just hope it’s words like these which can spread to the dressing room and impact the fanbase to create a special journey all round

No. We have to start winning some games. And Everton at home is a good a chance as any.

If we win today..... we will all know the importance. Its massive.

If we win ..... Kieran will state the importance of our first win.

If we don't like the feeling of a pressure cooker ..... maybe we're best of in the Championship or League One.
I would think Portman Road will be buzzing today. The pressure could add to the atmosphere.

Just need to win today. That's it.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I agree with him. Four draws from seven is better than one win and five losses. The team has shown it can match, if not yet beat, a variety of Prem opposition, most of them from the top half of the current table. It's a solid foundation to build upon.

Much prefer our situation to having scraped a flukey win against maybe 10-man opposition plus a last-minute deflected equaliser at Southampton.

The "must win" equation is usually based upon us losing a great majority of our games - which we're not. Keeping the points total ticking over at other times takes some of the pressure off. If we draw two-thirds of our remaining matches, that's 20 points. We might only need to win three or four on top of that to be safe.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Think you're over-rationilising. The ' must win' equation is this.... we have to win some games to survive. Might as well start today.

We're not going to draw 20 games. And a win is 3 points and a draw ia 1. Let's not make this complicated.

Don't let tgat fool you, McKenna will be desperate to get a win on the board.

The longer we ho without a win, the bigger the issue becomes for the team.

This feels like the sort of game that if we don't win we look back later and say this is were it all went tits up.

For the first time for ages gonna be really pixxed if we lose.

It's a must win

The whole core of the team has changed. McKenna may feel that once the win comes we will hit form and theres no rushing it. I felt at the start of the season after first 10 games I will see whether we stay up. Need a win in next 3.

The reality is there's very little in it between the bottom 6 sides in the table. We can be cautiously optimistic that we have more quality than Wolves and Southampton based on the football played so far, but we have no right to beat Everton. Yes we're at home, but we'll have to earn it, which means far more players turning in a good individual performance than they did at West Ham.

In a likelihood it's going to be a very tight game and the players are going to need us to be behind them for 90 minutes. But regardless of the result, our season will be defined by what we do over 38 games. As fans we need to avoid "must win" etc as the margins are incredibly tight and a binary mentality will serve us poorly.

The rest of the league ain't gonna wait for us to gel.

KM know we need a win, but is playing it down.

Each winless game brings more pressure on the next one.

Not criticising KM, its just fact.

To be fair, I don't even mind if we are in the Champ next season.

I'm not saying we should set up for a draw (very much doubt we do, ever), but that it is not an emergency if failing to win at this stage, so long as we keep the points total ticking over.

I really don't see why we can't draw 20+ games. We had a bad day at West Ham, but the only other teams to actually beat us have been the current top two. That's against half of the top half of the table, not feeble opposition.

People seem to forget we've spent over 100 mill.
The owners are gonna be happy with a 100 mill spend. A new shiny expensive 5 year manager deal with 0 wins.

He's a long way from fan critique on this front. But we don't know how the owners feel.

Many popular mangers haven't been given the time once they get into the prem.

Everton are in our 'mini league' and if we've got any chance of staying up then we need to win. A gallant draw is fine for them and for us means we have to go to their place and gallantly win. The maths might say different but we all know that we need to do this.

Really don’t agree Frimmers. The £100m was a minimum spent if a team wants to properly compete in the Prem, but it brings no guarantee - the owners will know that. I’m totally confident that they are aware of the challenge and as long as things don’t disintegrate into chaos on and off the pitch KM will be safe.

Don’t forget, we’ve only have one really poor display this season, which is pretty good considering it’s largely a new tea. And we all know that we’re going to get a few tonkings this season - pretty much every team does. KM is one of the top young managers and will be safe.

And I’d also ask this - Who else is going to be able to get more out of the group of players we’ve got than him?

I just don't trust owners. The prem has done dangerous things to some of them.

Hopefully you're right tho.

We’ve not built Harlem globetrotters. I don’t think there’s any reason to believe we’ll win 1 and it’ll be like waiting for London buses, it’s going to be a scrap to the end this season and every point is vital. Realistically there’s probably 10-12 home games you would earmark as ones that need to prove fruitful, well likely need to win 6 of them and i would include Everton in that group. It’s probably only our 2nd of the season in fairness, with Fulham arguably being the other in that group. Outside of those it’s just a case of scrapping for points which we’re doing a good job of so far. These are big ones though, we don’t need to win them all but we need to make the most of them.
