Unwelcome fans? 10:58 - Nov 4 with 9129 views | peterleeblue | My daughter and I had a particularly unpleasant experience in the concourse in SAR Upper stand on Saturday after the match. Are entitled fans now picking on ones perceived to be unentitled now.? Has anyone else this season been told they have no right to be at the match taking up a seat for more deserving Ipswich fans. To the Town "fans" from Hull and then Manchester who felt they had some sort of right to verbally attack my daughter on hearing her accent, thanks for ruining our weekend.

My son lives in Hull at the minute (He's at Uni). Is there a number of Town fans in Hull he could meet up with to watch TV games?

Most likely he'll find a few at uni. I'm at uni too in Leeds and I know 4/5 Town fans who also go here, just met by chance, one at the gym, one in a 9am lecture and one on a night out.

He said he's met another Town fan so far at uni yeah. Saw him sporting his town shirt in the students union. When I was at uni there, I remember there being a big fight after the Liverpool/Man Utd FA Cup Final so they banned football shirts for a while after that!

In a nutshell yes. Funnily enough my daughter and I were discussing the lack of volume from the Portman Road PA. We made a comparison to the newly installed one at Sunderland's stadium of light. At that point my daughter was challenged completely unsolicited as to who she supported. Which is by and large irrelevant. For around 20 years of her life we have watched hundreds of football matches together watching both clubs in the various leagues the 2 clubs have inhabited over that time. For the record I have supported Ipswich since 1976 (age 8). Thankfully it looks like hopefully our case was isolated and I can convince my daughter to continue to join me at Portman Road. If this was while you were in your seat, and you can recall where those acting like this were sat I'd report that to the club. Not acceptable behaviour. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

In times where a lot of long term fans are struggling to get tickets, who she supports isn't entirely irrelevant imo. Not that she should be bullied about i, but I agree with the general point that they are making, if she isn't a supporter, but not that they should be taking up with you or her.

It was walking down the stairs into the upper concourse. So I couldn't really locate either of them to a seat. To be honest I think it was more to do with the frustration of having just lost the lead. I'd like to think so anyway. Thanks for responding. [Post edited 4 Nov 2024 17:28]

I understand both sides of the argument and I appreciate you responding. Her primary club is Sunderland. She was born in the North East of England. All her footballing life she has supported both clubs because of me. We actually don't enjoy it when the two clubs meet. From an ITFC perspective (and for my side of the family) I still wished I lived in Suffolk but that's not the trajectory my life has taken. I appreciate following two clubs maybe difficult for some to understand. Having done so together for 20 years though should we now owing to Ipswich's limited capacity simply declare ourselves unworthy of attending? We attained our tickets via the membership scheme. The same system available to everyone else.

My son is a Villa fan and we have season tickets there as we live in the area. Villa have a similar waiting list for season and match tickets and due to having held our tickets since their time in the Championship I don’t feel that I am depriving anyone of a ticket. There have been many occasions where my son has joined me at Town games both home and away both in the past few seasons as well as when the ground was half full in League One.He has a fan ID, gets tickets through the club and cheers us on when he’s there. He only gets tickets at the point at which he is eligible. I do not see a problem.
Unwelcome fans? on 19:23 - Nov 4 with 5818 views | Hugoagogo_Reborn | I witnessed a full-on barney between two disabled fans at West Ham away. The lady in a wheelchair behind me suddenly started laying into the guy next to her and asking how the hell he is suddenly in the disabled section. "Where were you two seasons ago when we were in League 1?" He replied. "I wasn't in a wheelchair two years ago". There then ensued a farcical "I've been disabled longer than you" exchange that was frankly, astounding. I found that utterly unbelievable that fans are calling out people they haven't seen before. There is such a thing as ballots, and also friends getting tickets for games they then subsequently can't attend. It's so sad. The entitlement of some ruins it for the lucky few that get a chance to attend games they never thought they could attend. Grow up, those of you that spout this kind of rubbish. Neither are are reasonable position for the fans heckling the OP and his daughter. Yes, I understand that long term fans may be disappointed, but are you suggesting that families shouldn't be able to buy tickets and attend if some of them support another club first? This club (and game) should be welcoming family groups.

I have to admit to laughing at that! She must have thought it was some Alf Garnett pretence to gain cheaper entry to the ground! Would have been even funnier if the bloke had got up and walked out, waving goodbye to her at the end! (NB: Not all disabilities are visible and some disabled people can easily walk short distances.)

It literally was that farcical. I did laugh at the ludicrousy of it all, but it was also pretty sad that, at a time where it is so important for fans to stand together, at least 30 minutes of my away day experience was spoilt by a good number of drunk/obnoxious/entitled fans getting in the way of just trying to watch a match and support my team. For the record, I got lucky that my sister got tickets for the away match, then got a clash with the fixture. I tried so hard to appreciate the fact that I got a ticket when I've not been an S/T holder since 2015. I genuinely felt undeserving of having a ticket for the match, when so many would give a lot to get there. To see the blind drunk, obnoxious, beligerent behaviour of town fans in the away end was just so disappointing. I actually felt the need to thank the stewards in our area for being so long suffering and patient with the morons around our area. I actually don't want to do another away game whilst we are in the top flight. Somehow, the morons have spawned at an alarming rate. [Post edited 4 Nov 2024 21:37]

I think most of us fans are feeling mightily underwhelmed by the Premier League after all these years away. Hope the younger fans enjoy it, but I am out.

That's a bollox argument, frankly. If you're a long term fan and gave up your season ticket when we were sh1te, got relegated etc then the fact that you can't watch Town in the premiership is on you. Nobody else.

This was my mate. He’s still astounded at what was said to him. He has to live with his progressive illness and to hear this totally p***ed him off. In his words; “I got disabled top trumped by her” Anyway, he still carries on, and will, going to every game he can, and good on him.

I couldn't believe he had to deal with that. It was so rude and unnecessary. I hope he doesn't get insulted like that again. I would probably not have been as measured as he was, given the circumstances.
