Sorry for moan but haven't seen anything on it - was a nightmare getting into the North Stand yesterday - Alf Ramsey Way was at a complete standstill 20 mins before kick off. No clue what can be done to fix it but not a steward in sight and felt like it could have been dangerous for older/younger supporters, and only takes a couple of impatient idiots for it to become an issue

I appreciate not everyone can arrive early for various reasons, but I can't help thinking supporters bring this on themselves.

We know the crowd is going to be 30k
We know there are only a certain number of turnstiles (and things can go wrong)

If you arrive at the stadium 20 mins before kick-off, then you are asking for problems IMO.

Scanning every single supporter is clearly causing the issue, but I guess it has to be done at this level

I get that - there was no access for me to walk through though, let alone a supporter in a wheelchair

Yes I think we all need to adjust to this. No longer can you just rock up and go in. Just like you can't buy tickets on the day anymore (if at all!)

Everton game was dreadful but they were having problems with the wifi.

Why? Well the club told me it's because as we're in the "high profile Premier League" we're now a terrorist target. Ignoring the fact that the vast majority of us in the SBR are season ticket holders, the same people who were there last season, and probably the season before that. Presumably we're now suspected of being radical religion followers or far right fascists.

Not really, I choose to give my money to local businesses after a three hour drive to the ground and never ever once suffer any problems getting in.

First thing they need to do is use access to and in the stand as it was originally designed and used safely for many years. Open up all 16 turnstiles to the whole stand, take down those stupid fences inside which restrict flow through the upper tier turnstiles and open up all stairways to the upper tier as they used to be before some imbecile at the club got worked up about the occasional tw@t getting a ticket for the upper but standing with their fellow tw@ts in the lower tier. We have brilliant people at the club on the Football side, but unfortunately complete idiots elsewhere.

I was one of those. Got there a little later than I would have liked. But this was due to being in the Arcade Tavern. Left half an hour to get in and got in 14:50. Twenty minute queue was ok and expected at that time.

Not saying I had an issue with the queue - I walked from the dump side towards the big car park, but physically couldn't get through the crowd to get to a lower tier turnstile

Could be managed so much better, some fencing to have fans ‘snake’ round. Making a pathway for other fans going to other parts of the ground

I think that’d be a good idea. It is a bit chaotic behind NS and the Fanzone/West Stand entrances these days. I get people should allow more time, but if the club is serious about ‘fan experience’ this is something they could improve with a little thought and little cost.

At the Villa game they were patting down / scanning literally everyone and being a little later than intended I got in 5 mins before kick off. I’ve taken to allowing more time and yesterday wasn’t too bad for the West Stand with 45 mins to go.

There’s no harm in a little queue control.

Tickets have advised to be seated in the ground at least 30 mins prior to kick off, and have done for a while.

I would imagine, as with so many things this season, that it's mandated by the Premier League.

The sudden appearance of enhanced security at the Everton game would suggest to me that a matchday audit was carried out after a couple of games, with various improvements suggested (demanded) by the PL, including upping the intensity of the security operation.

Perhaps if it was evidence based on actual findings on crowd behaviour and conduct of town fans it might make sense, but it's not. It's just it doesn't meet PL "requirements" so change it! You would hope that someone at the club would then assess how the changes would impact access to the ground and circulation around it, there's not much room in SAR Way and adjust accordingly, e.g.go back to all SBR turnstiles accessing the whole stand. But they will wait till crowd congestion in SAR Way causes a serious issue and then plead ignorance.

Not everyone was scanned going into the fanzone. My son, grandson & I were waved through with a smile. Perhaps we don't look suspicious

Agree. I sit in the upper North and the queues have been terrible for the last few games ever since security was tightened. There's a real danger of a crush developing imo with people queuing to get in and people trying to get past to get down to the West Stand entrance. All made worse with the vehicle blocks and the EADT tents, programme kiosk.

Everyone was getting scanned going into West, bag searches the lot, thought it was a Prem requirement but spoke to bloke at work who went to a Chelsea game recently and he said nobody was getting scanned or bag searched so god knows...

I did a similar thread on this last night - it's an absolute mess behind the SBR before games now, and can't carry on like that.

The scans/searches were taking far too long and meant that people were feeding into the stand really slowly.

Sorry mate, I missed yours - but yeah, the scans plus the free for all mean there’s going to be an issue there before long

Well we had a man U supporter in front of us yesterday. Don't suppose he rocks up at PR every game. What if had been a terrorist

We can carry on like that if people are going to the turnstiles 20-30 minutes before kick off. Alf Ramsey Way and Portman Road are always heaving a hour before kick off and most are just standing around chatting with seemingly no intention of going in.

Obviously their decision, but hard to find a complaint about the delay when you wait for the queues to build up before even thinking about queueing yourself.

The club aren't going to relax security measures because a few people are getting bent out of shape. "Please go in earlier" will be all they say.

Or they could just have a functional queuing system which doesnt block the whole road up

Yep. Regardless of arrival time, the massive queue and completely blocked road will continue to happen if they manage the entry as they have in the last few weeks.
