Council's have to make money either from tax (council tax) or other items like car parking, that's how they found the services people use.

Similar to how the Government removed the winter fuel allowance from OAPs. You only get public services if you fund it

I've no issue with that - councils have to make money by every means at their disposal, and nobody is forced to park in the council car parks in the vicinity of the ground.

Portman Road is fairly unique in that it has Council-run parking pretty much outside the front door. Compare the £15 the council want with the prices charged for on-site parking at the various out-of-town bowls around the country, and I imagine that it isn't too far away from the going rate.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Council looking to maximise revenue for services based on use/demand of existing facilities.

Def not a catchy headline.

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR by ArnieM 3 Sep 2024 18:43
Just to warn people who travel in to was Town from afar. The IBC have a reported, predicted, £22m + shortfall in funding and are planning a raft of cuts to save money.

But one of their planned items to claw in money that caught my eye is their plans to raise car parking fees in the the car parks around Portman Rd on match days, from the reported £6 to a whopping £15!!!!!

How the hell can they justify that? I don't think ITFC will be very impressed.

Whereas one supposes that the Tory way would be to flog the car park off to one of their mates on the cheap, and let them charge £20 on match days?

Completely Agree, but would have been better, surely, to raise the price across the whole week, by £1 or £2, rather than the near £10 hike on match days only.

All this will do, is keep anyone not attending the game away from Town and will impact many retailers who do not benefit from match day trade.

What is the alternative if you drive in, NCP car parks further away, park and ride?

I park on-street about a ten-minute walk from the ground.

Between street parking, public transport, and other parking providers, there are plenty of cheaper options other than parking in the Portman Road car parks.

I've started parking at Stowmarket Rail Station.
£7 train into Town return, lot less stressful after the game.

Not strictly speaking correct. There were improvements on many fronts when the Tories came to power but they made an absolute mess of the latter years. The biggest shame was the shambolic performance of Labour, under Corbyn, that allowed the Tories to increase their majority at a time they really should have been removed, or at least reduced to a slim majority.

The jump in price is a bit sneaky. It's not out of synch with costs in some other places I've been for football (including council car parks). Is expensive though.

The council here have ramped up prices in the last year too- I think they're all feeling it.

They did enough, in the coalition government, to convince the electorate they had the Countries best interests at heart.

That Labour put up such a pathetic effort in 2019 means that they must be considered responsible for allowing someone like Johnson to win with such a big majority.

I hold the view that elections are lost rather than won. Tories deservedly lost this year shedding votes in all directions. Labour deserved to lose in 2019.
