Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 19:03 - Nov 25 by Pinewoodblue | They did enough, in the coalition government, to convince the electorate they had the Countries best interests at heart. That Labour put up such a pathetic effort in 2019 means that they must be considered responsible for allowing someone like Johnson to win with such a big majority. I hold the view that elections are lost rather than won. Tories deservedly lost this year shedding votes in all directions. Labour deserved to lose in 2019. |
In fairness as much as they might have deserved to lose (although how anyone could vote Tory again after Brexit and the mass deaths during Covid baffles me) there’s no way Corbyn deserved the treatment he got from the right wing press. The fact we don’t have a truly free press now even the bbc has been taken over by the Tories is a massive issue.

Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 17:24 - Nov 25 by Cheltenham_Blue | Completely Agree, but would have been better, surely, to raise the price across the whole week, by £1 or £2, rather than the near £10 hike on match days only. All this will do, is keep anyone not attending the game away from Town and will impact many retailers who do not benefit from match day trade. |
Yes just drive to Stowmarket training from there

I park in a street just over a mile away from the ground. Nice bit of exercise to get my steps in.

Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 17:40 - Nov 25 by Pinewoodblue | Not strictly speaking correct. There were improvements on many fronts when the Tories came to power but they made an absolute mess of the latter years. The biggest shame was the shambolic performance of Labour, under Corbyn, that allowed the Tories to increase their majority at a time they really should have been removed, or at least reduced to a slim majority. |
Literally the first thing the Tories did on coming to power was actively work to make public services worse and try to blame it on the most vulnerable sections of society.

I think Labour would have struggled with whoever they had with Brexit being the main election issue at that time Why they kept Corbyn originally despite losing to May was indeed questionable though

Yeah but I'm always here to remind people about Ipswich borough councils property company, the one that bought office space in Peterborough, the one that bought Toys R Us at Copdock for a 7figure sum to stop M&S leaving the town centre (hows that working out btw...) brought 6.3million of that loss in one year to that party. Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 16:35 - Nov 25 by TheBlueGnu | Sorry, it's only down to one thing, and one thing only - Pure greed. Nothing else. Pure greed. |
Absolutely this. Doesn't matter what political party you're talking about, local and county councils are an absolute disgrace when it comes to wasting money and then bleating about it. Obviously central government has to take its share of the blame but if councils were properly run with defined and co-ordinated leadership, the shortfalls would be a lot less. Instead, you have a lot of jumped-up bureaucratic buffoons leading a bunch of jumped-up power-trippers who probably got in on less than a 1,000 votes in the local election. And the end result of that is they'll always find money for a vanity project close to their hearts like a sculpture on a roundabout and then complain they haven't got any cash for the services that really matter. There are good councillors about and, more importantly, good council officers. Decent people who got into it with the right intentions. But sadly they appear to be few and far between. This hike in car park prices will just scratch the surface of any debt and, if you look closely at that debt, you'd probably be horrified to see where and how it has been accumulated. Councils can plead poverty but they need to look at themselves first. But, as others have said on the thread, this rise in car parking is just pure greed and opportunism. If we were still in the Championship, would the hike have been as high? Thought not. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 12:12 - Nov 27 with 1583 views | artsbossbeard | 15 English to park right outside the ground on a match day isn't bad value. Surprised that the council hasn't realised this already. Want cheaper parking? Park elsewhere and walk to the ground. If you want to pay a premium for parking on the doorstep then pay a premium. Seen enough cars with parking tickets in that car park on a matchday to understand that some take a chance on not paying anyway.

The perfect excuses exist. Councillors taking advice of council officers while council officers point out the decision was made by Councillors. The blame game.

Pretty much the whole of Hawthorne drive you can park on and it’s a 10-15 minute walk plus you get to beat the traffic on the way out and no chance of a parking fine / never understood why it’s not busier on match days -

I don't see why people don't think this is a valid argument. We should be expecting Local Authorities to achieve the going rent for the use of non-essential assets. Why should the council sell premium football parking at a substantial discount, when stadium-adjacent parking sells for £15 or more a match elsewhere. I appreciate that there is a personal aspect for many here but I would imagine that, if this was something that we didn't have a vested interest in, there would probably be plenty of sage nodding, and an acknowledgement that it's about time that whoever it is started paying the going rate for their parking.

Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 20:50 - Nov 27 with 1379 views | ITFC_Forever | In Phil’s story, the council spokesperson says that £15 is the going rate (or below) to park next to a Premier League ground on match day. So what happens if / when we get relegated? Will they put the prices down again? Doesn’t affect me to be fair, live less than 10 min walk away, and some of the streets nearby are parking restriction free on match day.

Even in league one, you’d struggle to get a space after 2 : amazed the pricing stayed so low until now. It is a rip off really but then again, parking at say the 02 for a concert is usually north of 30 quid. I suppose it’s basic supply and demand but having said that, I don’t imagine it will reduce if we go down.

I think the issue here is not the price rise, it’s the 150% price rise. Stick that on your petrol prices or your train fares and see if you still think it’s fair and reasonable. It won’t solve congestion after the match, it just fleeces the fans. The fact the council have turned off all comments on their announcements on social media shows what a shameful, cowardly act this is. If they were offering a decent park and ride or alternative parking solutions, I’d understand it but they’re not. It’s greed and opportunism.
Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 10:41 - Nov 28 with 1123 views | OldFart71 | I see there's a proposal by Labour to replace Councils whether this is a direct result of so many being in trouble I don't know. I do believe that many Councils are the architects of their own downfall. Ipswich for instance paying in excess of £250,000 for two senior members. Some putting money into hairbrained schemes. Things like potholes where one is repaired and another two feet away because it hasn't been reported being left. Or the amount paid out in compensation for not repairing potholes. Things like Cornhill which was totally refurbished only for a gentleman to have a fall and the whole thing being replaced. Must have cost many thousands. The problem is services get cut back but the real waste isn't looked into. Where I live all our paths have been resurfaced. A notice was received as to when this would happen and what it would achieve. That a weed killer would be put down to prevent weed coming through. Within a couple of weeks everywhere you look weeds and grass is coming through. A neighbour reported it and was told it had been signed off and paid.

I imagine that the club hiked the fees for being in the fanzone (maybe a reason why the sweet stall moved outside), so the vendors are passing the hike onto customers?

Many many years ago people used to park next to Chantry park and walk to the ground, back when there wasn't even a car park next to the ground and it was the old cattle market. Too many do drive to games when they have viable alternatives, just because of convenience. I don't have a problem with using pricing at the car park to discourage that behaviour. Absolutely though it should be in conjuction with more buses to encourage people out of cars. You goto Nottingham with a ticket for a test match, you get to ride the buses and trams all day for free. Same in Melbourne just for the T20 bash. Why Ipswich buses can't offer free fares to anyone with a ticket to the game I don't know.

I'm sure IBC owned Ipswich Buses used to do cheaper fares (£1?) for, if not ticket holders then, season tickect holders on match days. If subsidised by ITFC a similar free travel on match days for ticket holders could probably be agreed. 27K people, two journeys each, £2 per journey, 19 league games = a little over £2m over the season. Cup runs? Another 8 games (max?) Approx £800K So come on Ashton, lob IBC £3m a year and get it done.

Scandalous RIP OFF of Town fans on 18:36 - Nov 28 with 824 views | skinnybob72 | I live north of the border so local transport in the Ipswich area is something I'm not massively familiar with. I have stayed at the Premier Inn at Claydon (for a Saturday 3pm game) and I'm sure the last bus back was something like 6pm - so what kind of service would there have been after the game last Sunday?? The parking is increasing because councils lack the wit to come up with any ideas to increase revenue other than go after the motorist, it's the same up here in Edinburgh. I did use said car park on Sunday but in future will simply find free on street parking further away and walk from there, so the council will get hee-haw from me.
