… so it therefore is even more of a good thing than we thought

Typical greedy Tories. Protect the fat cats and screw the rest.

I wrote to my then Tory MP ages ago about ticket touting, secondary market etc suggesting that the sector needed some regulation to protect consumers from organised price gouging and his view was it's a free market.

She’s an neoliberal ultra capitalist in the pocket of one of the largest banks in Europe, of course she’s going to back the evil empire, that’s her entire purpose in life.

I look forward to a regulator being introduced. It is time we protected small clubs and communities rather than everything being about the big clubs at the expense of everyone else.

I may be wrong, but didn't the Tories start the ball rolling on this bill before the election?

Yeah the bill fell by the wayside when Risky called an election. Labour are now running with it, problem is UEFA doesn’t like government involvement in football and there is a clause in the proposed bill that UEFA don’t like.

But then our great English clubs wouldn’t be competitive in a global market and the Glazers wouldn’t be able to take over a £Billion out of Man U and move it across the pond. How would football survive? 🤪

I completely agree - a regulator can’t come soon enough, together with stricter controls of the vulgarity of what the PL has become, with the Championship not far behind. It’s obscene and even if the Saudis are taking it to the next level, we don’t have to be part of it.

The PL will simply find some sort of loophole, exploit it and ignore any new Football Regulator.

I do agree with some of its aims but some of it simply seems to be a waste of time. Fans should be consulted on potential moves to a new stadium, changes to badges as well as kit with fan representation on the clubs board. The CEOs etc will simply tell them what is going to happen, listen to any complaints and then do it anyway - albeit with some sort of spin.

Yes, but you;'re missing the most important thing here, which is that effective regulation makes things harder for their mates to make money by fleecing off the take.

So why is Kemi Badenough against a bill her government would have implemented had there not been an election and they got booted out? Seems very weird to me.

Because politics is now so infantile the debating society tutored asshats believe they have to take a binary, contrary position on everything.

I agree with that, and I’m not here to defend Kemi, but I can envisage her opposing this in government. It’s not really her bag.

It doesn’t matter what KB has to say. After the next election she and her rabble will all be able to fit in a telephone box with room to spare. They’re irrelevant.

As it goes i believe a football regulator cannot come quick enough. How the game is run in this country stinks to high heaven.

I'm not sure getting a bunch of Quango's in with no experience is ideal either.

Plenty of things that need addressing, but I'm skeptical a OFGEM style regulator is the right way to do it.

Tend to agree with you. If it's going to end up with a load of politicians that have no understanding of the game, then it seems like a recipe for disaster (albeit I agree that something needs to be done)

If it does go through, is that not just proof that the FA are not fit for purpose? There seems to be so many cooks in the kitchen at the moment. Fifa are responsible for this, Uefa responsible for that, FA are meant to do this and the Premier League do what they want. A regulator could just make it more complicated if they end up letting Prem clubs do as they wish (by finding continuous loop holes)

Don't tell anyone on the General section of TWTD that this is one of the aims of the Bill!

"There is now a clear commitment to do more to improve Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) within the game. Clubs will now be required to be transparent and publish what action they are taking on EDI as part of reporting against a new Football Club corporate governance code that the regulator will introduce, improving decision making at clubs."

As regards the Bill more generally, I am not sure I am fully convinced .

People who are for regulators generally have a bee in their bonnet about a specific issue they think the regulators will magically solve.

Regulators rarely solve such things and like to create a whole bunch of new problems whilst they appear to do absolutely nothing and actually cost you the consumer more.

Football tv rights a classic example, the regulator decided to break up the deals so no one company could be dominant in the market, result a fractured set of rights across multiple platforms which cost the consumer a ton more to be able to watch but hey the regulator made sure no one could dominate the market right.

Never has be careful what you wish for been more apt for those wanting a football regulator

Not sure that parties of either stripe, perhaps even more the ruling one, have to offer football regarding EDI. Take in the EFL highlights and MoTD on a Saturday evening, then, if you can face it, have a look at the Parliament channel for comparison.
