Hmmm, maybe as a result of Broadhead being given permission to go. Akpom isn’t a 9, more of a left sided 10 I’d have thought.
SSN saying we're in for Akpom (n/t) on 09:50 - Aug 4 with 3245 views | itfcsuth | This sort of late action run around action really makes me scratch my head about the way we are conducting our business. Akpom has been available all summer, he's a very well known operator in the English game, especially at Championship level, and a decent one. If we wanted him, why have we waited until Birmingham agree a deal to make a last minute hijack approach. Good player though, especially at this level, would take him.

Akpom is *very much* a centre forward, no?

I dislike your negative view on pretty much everything these days, but I do tend to agree that this last-ditch move feels a tad scattergun. Although, how do we know he hasn't only been made available for loan in the last 5 days or so?

Maybe he wasn't open to a Champ move earlier in the window? Maybe, like others, he was wanting a Prem move when coming back home. It hasn't materialised and therefore is now open to a Champ move.

One freak season, the rest mediocre. No, not Szmodics, Akpom. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Or, more likely, is now open to a Champ move, whereas earlier in the window wasn't.

Yeah, another plausible scenario, for sure. Olympiakos would be an interesting move for him too. Although if he wants a final shot at playing in the Prem, one would assume it's a straight fight between us and Brum.

Very much so, could play a 10 with another centre forward, but certainly don't think he's a left sided operator.

Hirst, Akpom and Azon would be three very strong, physical number 9s for a Championship front line.

I don’t know maybe because Guiu is off to Sunderland? The negativity on this board at current is astonishing. [Post edited 4 Aug 10:04]

Maybe we are going to miss out on other targets. Azon may have already told the club his decision.

I'd imagine Akpom is instead of Azon, surely? The 9 role is Hirst's to lose and I can't see Akpom and Azon both coming in to play second fiddle.

He's decent in the Champ but certainly not one of those "ready for the next level up" signings. May just be the agent trying to get someone else to go the extra mile.

He's had 1 good season in his entire career and failed to score goals in a team which normally dominates domestically. I hope he does choose Birmingham to be honest. Edit: 1 in 3 for Ajax isn't as terrible as I initially thought. Still not sold on him and the cost involved. [Post edited 4 Aug 10:11]

I disagree. I think there is an enormous amount positives about the football club, from the ownership support, training ground redevelopment, one of best young managers in Europe I believe, some really good footballers at the club, and an incredible fanbase. But that doesn't mean everything the club does I believe in correct, or that the club is immune from criticism. I don't think everything we have done since promotion has been how I would have, especially some question marks around recruitment/squad building. This is a football forum, where we discuss all things ITFC, and you aren't going to agree with everything people post.

As the Hackney saga has proved, it's clearly not that easy to get people ready for the next level up when they still have the carrot of immediate PL football dangled in front of them.
