Sunderland 16:52 - Aug 16 with 2458 views | muccletonjoe | 8 making debuts and put 3 past west ham, have certainly made a better start than I thought they would. Hammers beat us easily at home in our last game in PL

It's called sensible recruitment. Not wanting loads of money on unproven youngsters and championship players.
Sunderland on 16:59 - Aug 16 with 1745 views | Bellevue_Blue | We went toe to toe with a PL winning Liverpool side for the best part of 60 minutes. Either way, I think it's a pretty weak comparison when you add in the lack of momentum we had towards the end of last season and which certainly makes a big big difference. Lets see where they are in May and then make a judgement.

Agree !! Sunderland bringing in players from Europe and different leagues . Meanwhile mckenna bringing in locals that can speak English..listen to the teacher and his tactics and how to beat the opposition rather Than playing our own game and with flair and heavy with strikers up front..if we adrift and we'll adrift by 15 games..il lose faith then with our manager

Not really. Great start and I’m pleased for them. They really are a proper Premier League club who’ve managed to mess it up in the last ten years. It’s where they belong having spent plenty of years there in the last 25. We’d basically collapsed by the time we played West Ham so there’s no comparison. It is early season. We looked competitive in the early months of the season before being found out.

I think if we'd played someone pants like West Ham, and won, we'd have stuck with the side and made any new recruits earn their starting place, rather than throwing them in to struggle.

It's just not even a comparison and it's pointless. This is a team that spent 3 years in the Champ and sold 25M quid worth of players in the those last two years as well as 40M + this summer. They had time to evolve the squad and the club in a different way. Can't jump to conclusions now. They've not stayed up, they've won one game. [Post edited 16 Aug 17:06]

Apart from West Ham away where we were battered and our fans were leaving after 50 minutes.

West Ham were absolute pants and under real pressure at home when we played them early on, they beat us 4-1. That's what I'm talking about tactics.

It's not wasted in the long-term though. We'll see first if Sunderland if they stay up and if they don't what they'll be left with in the long-term.

Look at the team that day. I think even at this stage we were leaking confidence and bedding in new players who ultimately didn't ever bed in (Muric, Clarke, Phillips, Johnson). That's not really tactics. That's personnel. Or personnel who don't fit/understand the tactics. [Post edited 16 Aug 21:07]

Why? They’ve got three points - for all we know they may well go a few months without getting another point.
Sunderland on 22:03 - Aug 16 with 798 views | HighgateBlue | We never had a Premier League midfield, sadly. Personally I think that was the biggest problem.

We were a year ahead of schedule. The more this summer develops, the more it's coming across we were setting ourselves up to be ready for the Premier League this season - the academy finally being granted Category A status and the number of players we're buying from foreign league. Last summer, and January, can be picked apart should we wish, but the reason it went wrong is we weren't ready. A year before we were in League One, and hadn't been in the top tier for over two decades.
