Inverting Leif isn't working 18:45 - Aug 30 with 1297 views | GlasgowBlue | He's much better bombing down the wing and putting in crosses. I think we'd get more out of Philogene if Davis reverted back to that position then Jaden could play off Hirst on the left the way Broadhead did. Thoughts?

Inverting Leif isn't working on 18:46 - Aug 30 with 1246 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | If we insist on inverting him it’s astonishing Jack Clarke isn’t out on the left playing around him. That’s literally his game. But as you said I’d rather we use Leif how we have when he’s been our best attacking Player.

I think that generally Leif.... on 18:50 - Aug 30 with 1184 views | Bloots | ....has been really poor this season, particularly in the last two matches. Of course that may be due to him having a lack of clarity/familiarity with this differing role, but his basic passing has been really poor as has been his attacking threat in general. I'm not sure he's fit.

Last season we started to see a partnership occur between Leif and Clarke, as Clarke naturally wants to cut in which gives Leif the space out wide. Unfortunately, that partnership got broken up often as Clarke was sacrificed when we picked up red cards. This season we've played Clarke on the right which isn't his natural game. I think going forward, we will see more of Clarke/Leif on the left and MacAteer/Egeli on the right, which should create more opportunities.

Inverting Leif isn't working on 18:55 - Aug 30 with 1106 views | HighgateBlue | Of all the ways in which we are worse than 15 months ago, the sorry case of Leif's form is the most baffling. When we last got promoted, he was a fantastic attacking left back. Unbelievably creative, with a proper, tangible, end product. And clearly our most saleable asset when we went up. Worth an absolute fortune. Even better than selling for a fortune, we managed to hold on to him. And then his form just totally fell of a cliff. Exposed defensively at Prem level, fine. OK, he was never a fullback whose defending was the highlight of his game. But back in the Champ, surely he'd be a cut above, like last time? All we needed was to do nothing, not tinker. But no. He was asked to come inside, and change his game. He himself has said that he was surprised to be asked to do this. I read that as him being diplomatic. I think, quite frankly, that he's been ruined. One possibility as regards Philogene, Clarke, et al, is that they're over-priced and not good enough. But another possibility is that they've been ruined too. Sunderland fans LOVED Clarke. And if a solitary point weren't so useless in this division when you're nestled above the relegation zone and dreaming of at least finishing above Norwich, I would love him too, for tucking away that pen. We'd get more out of Leif if we did as you suggest. For that reason alone, it must happen. We need many chances to be created in order to score goals. That has become clear. Leif is the one man in this team that we know can do that, at this level, in this system.
Inverting Leif isn't working on 19:22 - Aug 30 with 974 views | textbackup | I watched Leif today, and he’s absolutely wasted there. He got 29494 assists playing in the way he did last time in this league, maybe, just maybe try him doing that.

Inverting Leif isn't working on 19:26 - Aug 30 with 931 views | LankHenners | Yeah am slightly concerned that we've throttled the most potent attacking area of our team for no real gain. Only time that left hand side looks threatening right now is when Greaves bombs on and causes an overload.

Inverting Leif isn't working on 19:41 - Aug 30 with 855 views | Smoresy | I don't know if we're nullifying ourselves here or if we've conceded that opposition teams won't afford us that space anymore. Creating acres to run in for the RW and LB to attack, that was our bread & butter two seasons ago. Now the ball arrives to the feet of a fairly static player on the wing with a man or two in front of him, then is inevitably returned to sender far more often than not. Makes for a frustrating affair.
Inverting Leif isn't working on 20:16 - Aug 30 with 786 views | SufolkBlues123 | Couldn’t agree more. Philogene isn’t a Winger (either left or right). He’s too slow. Ogbene cannot trust his legs in terms of taking on an opponent. Burns will be the same when he returns. Clarke is knocked off the ball with the most minor touches, almost like the wind blows him off the ball. Young isn’t good enough to bomb up and down on the right hadn’t side. At points he was inverting in, with O’Shea providing the width. It all feels rather disjointed. From a formation which depended solely on stretching the opponents, yet still operating in the half spaces, this team is a shadow of the 23/24 team. It’s all good adapting tactically, but taking out our greatest strengths (leif’s width and crossing ability), not recruiting good dribblers and quick thinking forward players is inexcusable.
Inverting Leif isn't working on 20:34 - Aug 30 with 745 views | itfcsuth | Have repeated this already, do not understand the reasoning for taking away one of our biggest threats in Davis, when you are replacing for minimal threat in Philogene and J.Clarke. I’m no manager, but that doesn’t add up to me. [Post edited 30 Aug 20:35]

Inverting Leif isn't working on 20:41 - Aug 30 with 709 views | Jon_456 | The one time he got round the outside today he whipped in a ball for Chaplin to get a shot away. We scored from the resulting corner. A lot of talk about us over paying for players but McKenna really needs to step up and get more from this squad.

I honestly don't know what KM is doing tbh. He's got the championship world in his hands and he's fken it up tbh. We are all praying new signings ignite something. But Don't see it. They'll all play positions that don't play to their strengths and we will come Jan be hoping new signings transform our season.

Crazy isn't it. No logic to it. Losing Tuenze has wrecked the balance of the defence that allowed Leif his freedom to roam. He clearly does not trust Greaves behind him to cover him like Burgess did and now he has random left wingers blocking his path ahead of him. And he does not have the nous to be effective as an inverted full back to link as say Broady would have done in the same position. McK has wrecked a carefully constructed structure which other Championship teams never bettered. The hybrid system has been thrown away for a conventional, fully balanced utterly conventional 4231 which seemingly troubles nobody. Playing 2 wide men rather than the one winger and 2 10s we used to has left us short when it comes to link play with Hirst who is isolated as was Delap last year, though that was understandable against better defences. I do not see how the current formation and tactics are going to carry us forward. Maybe the new addittions, once bedded in will improve things but at the moment it is worrying. We are so dull, so lacking in invention, flair, guile, intensity, ambition, we have become a footballing non-entity lacking identity and purpose at the moment. It is time for McK to lose his school master approach and drive some enthusiam and spark and passion into the team. Make them regain the joy, privilege and purpose of playing. Because at the moment it is missing. And without it we are going nowhere. I hoped a win today would go a way to restore confidence and turn the corner. Was not to be. It will come, because even out of confidence and fluidity we are better than many in the division, but whether we are capable of then going on and putting a string of wins together, that is another story.
Inverting Leif isn't working on 23:25 - Aug 30 with 293 views | ITFCSG | This square pegs in round holes approach to multiple players is baffling. Aren't players signed to play in their best position and not trained to do something else? Not only Davis. You have J Clarke, Philogene, Szmodics etc. all asked to play experimental roles which so far they have failed to shine. It beggars belief why we spend so much to get them if we are not playing them in the position in which they can show their full potential. Is McK trying to prove he's some master genius coach that can shape a square peg into a round hole at the expense of performances and more crucially, points? Might as well try converting Muric into a 9 instead of loaning him out then, maybe Muric would be better than Hirst under the genius McK coaching. [Post edited 30 Aug 23:25]
