McKenna & Ashton Interview 21:17 - Sep 5 with 2039 views2-5-7

Very, very good to hear things directly from the two top who really drive our Club. We have a very, very good manager and a very, very good Chairman CEO.

Culture at core will carry us ultimaley this season.

Well spoken and well timed.

Not all clubs are lucky enough to have that level of insight shared, and that stands us in good stead in whats been a topsy turvy old few weeks.

McKenna spoke brilliantly as usual, a lot of important stuff from him that fans need to take on board.

Feel Ashton let him have the limelight for this one and we got more from KM but for all the stick he gets when Ashton speaks you can see why his staff would run through brick walls for him, I believe he does genuinely care for this club and all that comes with it.

There was a lot of talk of taking time for the new team to click into gear. Can’t help wonder if there is a deliberate attempt to moderate expectation.

100% all of this Mr SitfcB - I don't think it could have been summed up any better than that

A brand new start on quite a few levels vs. Sheff Utd. and the next 1 or 2 games after.

Big learning curve and fans (and coaches and players) getting to know the newbies after so many familiar faces have left.

It will take a little bit longer to get there than we all wanted.

It will though. Probably will click quite quickly.

I thought that the emphasis on time, wider picture was definitely setting expectations.
But not sure anyone expected we would be talking about needing time to build in the championship this time last year.

Let’s not beat around the bush. It was a number of carefully selected questions, asked by a close friend of both, with carefully planned answers.

Yep, I thought they both spoke very well.

There was a big effort between MA and KM to push the idea of togetherness which was well done. Successfully "gelling" new players requires the development of togetherness which only really comes with individuals spending quality time together. Losing strong personalities from the dressing room and losing matches works against that togetherness so it was good that KM went to some lengths to explain why Chaplin (especially) left but that the club was reluctant to let such a personality go.

Good questions from MH too.

Thank God they prepared it in advance. That sort of professionalism is exactly what we want from the people in those positions, right?

To be honest I'm not fussed either way.

Silence would be very Evansy.

Obviously getting results is the bottom line, but you still want those in charge to go through the motions at the very least of appearing to give a stuff.

Makes sense.

Sometimes people forget that if we don't get promoted this season we could, possibly, maybe, get promoted next season.

Even more people appear to forget that the league is not some life-sized console game where the team with the most expensively assembled team tends to win.

At the end of the day, both Ashton and KM will be judged on results on the pitch. No argument from me on that.

That said, the big takeaway for me is the substantive change the Club have seen, as much off the pitch than on.

It's good to hear this being called out, yes it is a reality as KM said but context is so, so important. We have lost key members of coaching staff, as well as key players. Clearly more than we were anticipating.

As both Ashton and KM said, each group is different, it isn't a case of bringing players in and sticking them into the existing mould - that mould has morphed. Different leaders, different characters - all within the wider framework but getting everyone up to speed and finding their new identity takes time (which is scarce in football).

Talk is cheap, as you say but I think it's good to hear what they both have to say. It doesn't detract from the need to get results but just having a little knowledge and understanding is no bad thing.

Well, it certainly wasn't 'off the cuff'.

That said, I think KM nearly gave away more than he had intended early in the interview, which was interesting.

Certainly no hard hitting questions, was hardly Paxman'esq but that's not a huge surprise is it?

Talk helps build a rapport, and ensure the majority of people (players, management and fans) are aligned. This will help with bringing the results we all yearn for.

I think there were two aspects relating to 'time'.

1. Club - getting itself, overall, up to a standard where it can compete at the Prem level, everything from scouting, the training group, Portman Road etc. - this is right, needs huge investment and time, it's reality - we are playing catch up.

2. Squad - turnover of players being higher than anticipated and with key characters leaving, it's not a case of wheeling in new players - this new group needs to find its feet and identity. as KM put it, they need to go through their experiences.

Of the two, one needs to happen more immediately than the other though.

I agree.

Although it was choreographed, as any interview of this type will be, there were some very candid moments that were maybe not entirely to script.

Building is not the same as waiting for things to click into gear! We're not in a period of building for the Championship.
