29809 for the sellout v naaridge - sure we were over 30k last season?

Extra stewarding to separate the away end will have dropped it down a few I would have thought

No difference, it’s the barrier there with a gap in between.

Don’t think it was quite a sell out, sell out but obviously not far off as the official capacity these days is 30,056.

Some of it is probably that the media are counted in the attendance figures. I suspect when we were in the Prem we were getting lots of international journalists to the our games against the 'big' clubs who aren't there now. The big media section certainly doesn't look as busy as it was.

Every available seat was sold other than one of the restricted view hospitality boxes (I assume in the Cobbold)

Has the safe standing bit been removed, possibly reducing total capacity?

Oh yeah they said they were going to remove that in block E.

Although safe standing doesn’t make a difference with how many seats are available, it’s the same.

Agree with Sitters on the safe standing point, everyone still had a seat allocated to them. Some of our fans got to sample the area for the Bournemouth home game. They may have relocated the barrier alongside removing the standing rails (did seats 1A and 1B exist in Block E last season or was this the PL barrier location?) but that shouldn't make a difference either way imo.

My guess is the same as Shefford's: media area. We only hit max capacity last year for the very biggest teams, even when all civilian seats and boxes were full. Ipswich v Norwich isn't big enough for Marca to their shame.

I've sat in Block E, 1A and 1B; I'm pretty sure that's where the barrier between home / away was last season. If I remember right; if you look on the edge of the step in front of those seat you can see the white painted edges that would have been where the gangway / steps were either side of the barrier. Also, they're unusually widely-spaced seats, probably because they could only fit 3 into the gap (I think 1A and 1B are extras in Block E, but I think there's an extra at the high-end of Block D numbers).

+1 for the 'media attendance' theory, I'm sure this was discussed last season and someone in-the-know confirmed 100% that media attendance did indeed 'count'.

Again, why are journalists included in the attendance? This is madness. They don’t enter through a turnstile and they’re not sitting in a seat anyone else can buy .

It enables us to clear the 30K mark on rare occasions, which I think I'm right in remembering was a stated aim of Ashton's early doors. This was always the simplest solution for achieving that mini milestone, and is my suspicion* as to why we do it.

*No shade intended.

I don't think this is just us - pretty sure it's a standard thing. Seems odd to me as others have said but I don't think it's unusual for clubs to do this.

We really are damned by that 30k line arent we, if the usual attendance was 30,005 to 30,100, with the occasional game top sell out line of 30,200 we would have very little chatter about the attendance....bleddy decimal number system!

Until we get promoted back to the Prem, those "rare occasions" will be non-existent.
(We couldn't even clear the 30K mark on a sell-out derby match against the scum).

Southampton game: 29,128
Derby County game: 29,155
Sheffield United game: 28,012
Portsmouth game: 29,141
Norwich City game: 29,809

Yeah without international media it's impossible for now, unless they invite randoms into that area which I don't see on the cards! Even an FA Cup QF against Liverpool wouldn't do it.

Genuine question, don’t know the answer, is it because the press pay to attend?

It looks positively astronomical in binary:

That's not a bad attendance in the old Second Division, is it?
