| George Hirst - match stats on 17:09 - Jan 24 with 1526 views | Dubtractor | Can't understand what has happened to him to be honest, he looks a shadow of the player he was in the 23/24 season. So many basic things that he is failing to do - there was one simple ball into him in the second half that just rolled under his foot. I've been a broken record with it, but a decent striker signing is the difference between us finishing top 2 or top 6. | |

| George Hirst - match stats on 17:09 - Jan 24 with 1508 views | cbower | It's quite hard to watch isn't it. I really thought he would be excellent this season but whilst he runs and runs, his hold up play has been poor, his finishing equally so and he seems to be out jumped and outmuscled far too often. His passing today was atrocious when he managed to actually get the ball under control. And I like George Hirst! | |

| George Hirst - match stats on 17:10 - Jan 24 with 1474 views | Superblue95 | About a minute into the game the ball broke for him and he had Clarke, Taylor and Matusiwa all wide open to get an attack going and instead he managed to lay it off to a Sheffield Utd player. Not sure what’s happened to him this season | |

I loved hirst. I wanted hirst in games last season. But this season hed be lucky to get first team games for Portsmouth. Hes lost everything that made him a brilliant forward for us. He was never prolific at scoring but he did everything else. Now hes genuinely hurting our performances.

He started the season fine didn't he? I wonder if he was then carrying an injury and we really didn't have much else as an option. He is now returning from injury but that sounds like a poor game from him. Was possibly a better idea to have stuck with Azon after his performance last time out. I am sure everyone is agreed we need a better option than we currently have in that position. I am not holding my breath that we will get it, though. I think Mehmeti has played as a striker but suspect he will be sharing the 10 role with Nunez.

| George Hirst - match stats on 17:13 - Jan 24 with 1383 views | HighgateBlue | Absolutely right. He's been part of some sides that have given us all great joy, and he seems like a great bloke. No animosity on a personal level. But not good enough. Norwich have two better no.9s than us. I'm really sorry but our priorities in the transfer market over the last couple of years have been really lopsided. It's like McKenna goes to buy a striker and gets distracted by the Winger and No.10 Sweet Shop on the way. Oh, and the Right Back Charity Shop. Really looking forward to seeing what Mehmeti can do, I've thought of him as a potential target for a couple of years, and £3m is a great price. But it's like McKenna is trolling us by buying another player of that sort whilst we languish up front. You don't finish in the top 2 without a striker who's good enough for a top 6 club, and I don't consider that it's too old fashioned to require such a player's attributes to include scoring goals. The clock is ticking. A Kieffer Moore type, a Patrick Bamford type. Even a Carlton Morris type. I'm not asking for another Liam Delap. If you want to let Ollie McBurnie slip through your fingers, you'd better have a pretty bl00dy convincing alternative. 24 Jan, and the clock is ticking. The playoffs necessarily include two games away from Portman Road if we want to win them. Right now, the odds of us winning the playoffs look slim if we end up in them. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It's been alarming and sad to see. Especially after those 'It's my bread and butter' type comments he made earlier this season.

Azon has the starting shirt for me now. Taking the no9 shirt seems to have been a curse for Hirst. [Post edited 24 Jan 17:16]

It's not lazy scapegoating is it? He had a really poor game. 100% agree with your second sentence though.

Simply not true. He didn't have a good game and the stats back it up. He's just well off the pace at the moment for whatever reason. No fans should ever be doing that to their own players. SB [Post edited 24 Jan 17:19]

oh grow up its not scapegoating to point out that a player has been terrible today, and at best average across the first half of the season. he had no player within 3m of him today and he failed to put his foot on the ball. we must upgrade this month, must!

That’s just nonsense. Of course they are serious about going up. We’ve won seven of the last ten games. We may not go up, but it won’t be for the want of trying. Why? Because everybody else is trying too. We were not good enough today. Wilder has done a fantastic job at Sheffield United and has a decent team. Nobody has a divine right to win. It’s called sport. So McKenna is stat obsessed. You must know him to know that. What’s he like? Give us the low down. Have you had a word with him to try and coach him on where it’s all going wrong? If not, why not? I think you should. I guess it’s over to the nappycrappers for the next few days.

Hirsty isn't why we lost the game. Would suggest those desperate to have a pop at him need to do the growing up.

Hes a big reason we went in at ht behind JD A simple. Simple pass to clarke he fked up A simple pass to azor he fked up He simply kept fking up. Do I condone the cheers no. But lets not pretend he wasnt a big issue today he really was. Clarke wouldnt get the ball as the man who was supposed to supply him.. couldn't win the ball and then when he did he fked it up. Its ok to say Hirst was crp.

Nobody is actually saying that are they? People are highlighting that he is well below the level he has historically reached and we could and probably should look to upgrade. SB
| George Hirst - match stats on 17:34 - Jan 24 with 945 views | SamWhiteUK | I was Pro-Hirst before the season and in the first few games, but it's just not working for him now. You can tell it's weighing on him as well, his body language is completely off. The one thing I really wish he'd stop doing though is having a go at the wingers etc for not giving him the ball when he's not really made much effort to get into a good spot. There was one in the first half, Clarke gets down the wing and tries to put it across and Hirst throws his arms out like, "why didn't you give it to me?" Well, probably because you weren't up with the play, George. He did it again when SWE had his shot saved, GH was nowhere near up with him | | | |

There was one which clarke out across goal Hirst stood behind Sammy rather than getting into 6 yard box. Ball played across no one there.
