I drove across the USA last summer. Went into a few service stations and each time 13 to 15 year old kids (sometimes younger) coming out would hold the door open and call me sir. At a bar a young lad asked my wife if she would "like my seat ma'am"?

There seems to be a completely different culture of respect to people's elders over there.

His phone camera. His carapace. The weapon of the witless poltroon.

The irony of him recording to vindicate himself, when in fact the recording exposes his cowardice and his stupidity.

I think you can still be polite without the off-putting (to me at least) over-politeness of the US.

This guy is just being a knob for no good reason, but I imagine this was done as rage-bait content.

Equally, doesn't that just show the availability of video and social media and spreading this sh2te? No doubt an absolute scrote and one of plenty about, but were there never scrotes ' back in the day'? Just went unfilled. And there are plenty of examples of amazing helpful kids teens and young adults now and in the past.

I'm a postie, the other day a few teenage boys came over to me, bold and loud as teens get, I feared they'd be taking the mick or similar, they'd come over to warn me about a bees nest around the corner. Very polite and helpful.

There are scrotes, but I'm not sure were living in some morally destitute Nation just yet, or any time soon.

Definitely an element of that.

And the reaction to that clip tells you 99.9% of people think the guy is an absolute arse wipe, so far from the normal behaviour morally.

Yep, think Glassers is forgetting what utter sh1ts some kids were in his day. Being rude and obnoxious is part of growing up - and always has been.

Difference is that with social media examples can be captured and shared a million times and so we think things like this bloke being a dick is common or typical - when it simply isn't.

I chatted to/was interviewed by two teenagers at my local comp last week - got invited to speak to them about "fighting injustice" for a school project - they were insightful, knowledgeable, empathetic and genuinely decent young people. But no one videoed it or put it on social media for clicks. So it went by unnoticed...

Not only that, kids are literally rewarded by these platforms for this behaviour, sometimes monetarily.

Johnny Somali and Chud The Builder are extreme examples of where it can lead.

I would like to think that the younger generation of our day were at least respectful to older ladies.

It's only because they think you are a British toff.
Seriusly, for all it's faults of the US, it would be good to know how they ingrain that into kids as it is universal there.

Absolutely agree with the not videoed so didn't happen thing. It's a mess to the point where kids now see self indulgent people filming themselves buying homeless people meal deals as the good guys. I mean they're technically being nice, but kids are learning that you do things to be seen rather than because it is the right thing. Equally if it's only the OP type of scrote that is seen on social media then it all gets tarred with the same brush so contrived kindness is probably better than none being seen at all.

Yeah, but I don't like that either I don't want to be called sir. I prefer a bit of mutual respect rather than indoctrinated rules. And the kids wanting big tips because they're not getting paid?
I wonder if many of their veterans would agree that they receive more respect?
Let's not let one case of an idiot on a staircase become the example by which the whole of society is judged.

I think that's a little naive and rose tinted.
Do you not ever think that just a very few times 'back in your day', a few scrotey kids wouldn't have ever, when showing off said some silly things to an old granny pushing her shopping trolley home or whatever? All we're talking is 0.01 percent of the kids doing that once messing about. As before, the difference is that it's now filmed and clipped up to be rage bait and get clicks. If the few scrotey kids from back in the day videoed it and it was circulated people would think the same of your generation. It's not as of this is an epidemic and 10 teens in every school class are doing it, it's the odd absolute twonk, who gets ripped to shreds for it.

Its not just kids being rewarded for bad behaviour on social media - adults are in on the act too. See all the tossy 'auditors' out there stirring up trouble and poking their cameras at people who don;t want to be filmed (often vulnerable or street folk).

What an absolute Muppet this guy in the video. I hope someone stepped in. Problem nowadays is he's looking for a reaction and will post only a reaction with no context I'm sure with the title "Karen etc etc".

Couldn't agree more with your about 'Auditors'. Not a single one of them has ever had a girlfriend or offered anything tangibly useful to society. Need to criminalise these wasters ASAP. Must be a quick fix to get drone laws fit for purpose because there is no good reason these 'auditfwits" need to be flying their drone over workplaces, warehouses etc. Their one goal is to rage bait, get a reaction and get clicks.

The only thing worse than an auditor is the low life cretins who watch just to post "it's their lawful right ' etc and showcase their knowledge of a legal loophole to act like a b"llpeice.

Problem nowadays is if you step in you risk the person pulling out a knife. A lot of people are now conditioned not to bother taking that risk. It's the same with shoplifting - if I was a member of staff being paid minimum wage in somewhere like Tesco then there is no way I am being a have-a go-hero the way society is now.
