Funny how he can captain the u21's and can't even get a look in at the 2nd bottom Championship side, probably because we've got a manager who only knows how to bully people, trouble is it works on some but not others like Owen.
Good Luck Owen son, hope you end up at a club who appreciates you and can nurture your skills, I think you're a damn fine player who's had his confidence shattered by a poor man manager!!!!

garvan should be given the chance to partner leadbitter in central midfield, I think that would be a really effective partnership, anyone else agree?

I was waiting to see how long it would be before someone made a comment about Garvan playing for the Irish under 21's, but not getting in our team. Oh yeah, it's RK' s fault that he is not playing. RK hates all Irish players and won't have them in the team......that is obviously not true.

Do any of you wait to think for a moment that Garvan is not good enough right now. Did he not admit a few weeks back that he needs to buckle down and try harder in training and reserve games? Does that not tell you something? RK is not picking him because RIGHT NOW he is not good enough. That is not to say that he is not good enough.

Look at DW who has come into the team on merit, after being dropped, and won over RK. Hard work men, is what is needed from all of the players.

I believe that we are all entitled to have opinions on the team selection, manager, etc, but some of the comments on here are just moronic!! Please think before you type.

Thanks.

he is being made captain because he always plays well for ireland and everybody has 100% faith in him! he is one of my fav players and i hope he goes to a ball playing team like cardiff and shows keano exactly how wrong he is! he dosent fit into ur team at the moment because we dont play football we play hoofball

From what I saw at Reading you are (sadly) correct about the hoofball, garvan7. I hasten to add that I haven't seen any other game this season (not because I wouldn't have liked to). Me, I prefer football. After all, that's what the game's called!

looks like garvan has a yet another chance to impress roy, just hope for owens sake he puts in 100%. roy has proved he will bring players back its all down to owen and nobody else. like i said before its not owens ability its his attitude

he was ruined by Jim and now by Keano, shame as he could have been a very good championship (not premiership) midfielder.

however, i trust Keanos judgement and just hope Garvan does something to force his way back into contention.

When will people understand that OG is vastly overrated by Town fans. Playing for the U21's (for the Irish Republic) is hardly an example of having made it.

The facts are Garvan can pass the ball but he cant do any of the following.

1) Tackle
2) Header
3) Run
4) Defend when not in possession(lazy? or incapable?)

...to "function" he relys on minders about him to allow him protection whilst on the ball.

Id rather have Norris : Leadbitter in the side tbh

What does captaining the Republic U21s actually say about your level of ability? Apart from Sean Scannell and Cillian Sheridan are any of the other players plying at championship level? Are these two playing regularly even? I do feel Owen appears to be frozen out but there is more to making it at the top level than pure ability and Roy has said as much. I do hope Owen does make it, but suspect he may have to drop down a level to do so. If he goes to Cardiff it is only to cover for an injury.

If Owen was really that good he would have been knocking on the door of the full Irish side by now, but he never has quite stepped up to the mark.

You can not right a player off, if he is not being played. You need more than one game to prove yourself. Don't forget Keano wanted to get rid of counago, stead and possibly D.Wright, and then dropped Delaney, who I thought had a good game at Reading (yes, I was there) Garvan has a good future, given support, which some people on here lack. Ipswich is my life, we must get this club back to where it belongs ! And I believe Keane will get there.

Garvin had a great opportunity to prove himself by going on loan to Colchester.
Regular 1st team football, a good manager, possible promotion....but he turned it down....says it all really !

depressed: How does that say it all? Bothroyd plays agressive hoofing football (at least he did at Watford) which wouldn't suit Garvan at all.

He also probably thinks/thought that he's good enough for the Championship and not League 1 (a statement I tend to agree with) and he probably also thought that he might get back into the team considering that we were struggling at the bottom.

So what exactly did you think he's refusal to go there meant?

My point being that you can read what you like into situations but it doesn't mean you are right.

if u are happy to pay to watch a bloke who cant be bothered to put any effort in then fair enough. I doubt most of us are though.

Naa...And your defence of Garvin doesn't make you right either.
Wouldn't you rather play and prove a point to RK than languish in the reserves.

As far as I can recall the life of Garvan under Keane goes . . .

Played in both games at end of last season - which we won.
Was sub in early games this season, and when he came on he an improvement to the team (definitely improved things in the Cov game).
Started against West Brom and had a shocker, and was subbed off (rightly so).
Hasnt had a look in since.

Now that does seem a bit harsh to be left out so severely since that one bad game. So surely he's still worth a sub place at least. If we had a settled winning midfield then fair enough, you can justify overlooking him, but the fact is that Keane seems to have tried all sorts of combinations and we've only won once, so SURELY it would be worth trying Garvan again. Frustrating.

I personally believe that Garvan is a MUCH better choice than Quinn and more importantly the very very poor Trotter. Then again I respect the opinions of fans who not only go to first team games home and away, but also the reserve team games. And as has been posted on here, many agree with Roy - Owen needs to do more to start a first team match. Now why is that? Perhaps his work rate isn't good or is he too slow or simply has a bad attitude?
